Arena League team offers Tebow backup job

The Philadelphia Soul have offered Tim Tebow a job as their backup quarterback.

This one is interesting because former Eagles quarterback and top-notch analyst Ron Jaworski is a co-owner of the Soul. He sent Tebow some plays he had in mind for him, mostly around the goal line. "One [criticism] of Tebow is that he is slow and methodical," Jaws said. "He would be forced to quicken it up in this league and it would be good training for him. You can learn a lot in this league. It's about processing information and getting the ball out...or you get whacked." Jaws did make it clear that Dan Raudabaugh would remain the Soul's starting quarterback no matter what. Tebow has zero known NFL suitors.


 
Jaws makes a good point for sure. It's a sell to Tebow for him, seeing as it would insure sell outs to every game, but it could be win win for both.

It's crazy that a guy who has the record that Tebow does in the NFL with no character issues can't get a job. It's to bad.
 
He should take the job, work to prove himself as a legit QB, and avoid the media and public appearances for awhile. If the big thing that's keeping NFL teams from signing him is the circus that comes to town with him, then he needs to step away from the public eye for a while and hone his passing skills.

Didn't he prove himself already by winning all those games? I get what you are saying but I think he should go just to help with his slow release, but as for proving himself? Haters will hate, but most reasonable people saw what he did when others couldn't at Denver.

Denver's defense and kicker's back hurts from that season.

Not quite. I think that half a season as a starter is a pretty small sample size to work with if you're an NFL exec thinking about signing him. What you have to weigh against his win-loss record in Denver are his poor mechanics, his tendency to tuck the ball and run without going through his progressions, and all the distractions he brings with him (not that those distractions are entirely his own fault). You also have to consider how terribly he played in large chunks of the games he did start in Denver. Moxie and fourth quarter magic will only get a player so far. At some point he has to show that he can be a consistently accurate QB with an ability to read coverages. So far he hasn't done that. A low profile stint in the Arena League might afford him the opportunity to learn those skills without the media hanging all over him.

Record with and w/out Tebow for the 2 years he was in Denver have to be night and day. And the defense/kicker didn't change. Just Tebow.

He's not a great QB but it's crazy that he can't get a job. There are 2nd/3rd stringers who don't have near the resume in the NFL that he does.

here's why. Kyle Orton is a decent backup in a pro-style system. A.K.A., a system that passes the ball with regularity. A.K.A. the modern NFL. A.K.A. the kind of offense that Tim Tebow sucks in.

A system that Tebow would be successful in is just wildly out of whack with what the rest of the NFL is doing. That's a tough sell even if he was going to be your starter. But, to be your backup? Why would you sign a backup that requires an entirely different offensive in order to be successful?

Let me throw some numbers at you. In the NFL last year, the average run percentage was 44%. Of the 32 teams in the NFL, only 6 of them ran the ball more times than they passed it. Of those 6, only three of them were more than a percentage point or two away from 50/50. The highest percentage? Seattle. They ran the ball 56% of the time.

Now, compare those numbers to the stretch when Tebow was the starter in Denver in 2011. During that span, the Broncos ran the ball a whopping 63% of the time.

That's just not even the same game that they were playing up there. And that's fine. They were successful, and that's cool. You say it's because of Tim. I say it's because of McGahee and the Defense. (and the defensive stats do back that up) Regardless, that's not the argument I'm making. What I'm saying is that whether or not Tim is technically "good enough to be in the league" is immaterial. He has to be good enough to play in the system that whatever team that signs him runs. And those teams are few and far between. Now factor in the circus that follows him, and you see where we're at.
 
We can always count on Mr. Janny to give us some good Tebow bashing. Not arguing with the facts or your point, just acknowledging that you have been pretty consistently interested in this topic.

Nothing personal against Tim. If there was a thread on how Reggie Bush is awesome and totally not a bust, I'd be right the thick of things there as well. I am a lifelong NFL fan. I love to discuss it, analyze it, and argue about it. I love the sport and want it to be the best it can be. Tim Tebow is a fun discussion, because so much of what his cheerleaders bring to the table is arbitrary and can be dismissed rather easily. It makes for good banter.

Just pulling your chain a bit. I have noticed that you are particularly quick, articulate, and well-armed for the Tebow discussions.
