Let's talk about reuben sandwiches

I don't know that a respectable reuben can have anything but corned beef and good rye bread. The kraut and dressing are a side show attraction to the main event.

This is called a corned beef sandwich.

There is a place here that does traditional, chicken, or a hamburger Reuben. Never had the burger one, but the other two are phenomenal.

Here being...?

I know it's not a traditional reuben, but turkey reubens are pretty good, so I'd go for a chicken and hamburger one.

I dare you to compare a "corned beef sandwich" reuben to a bastardized poultry or ground beef version and say its better. If you lie sir, the terrorists win.
all reubens have corned beef on them as far as I'm concerned, but if you take off the sauce and the kraut, you have a corned beef sandwich on rye bread.

I like me a good reuben. I don't think I've had one in Iowa that's the gold standard, but the sandwich I got at the Scott Street Pub in Council Bluffs once was pretty decent. I've heard about something called the reuben pizza in Iowa, too, that I'd probably try if the opportunity presented itself.

So where is the best reuben in Iowa?

Discuss.

Not a Reuben eater myself, but The Belgian Village in Moline, IL is alleged to have the gold standard of Reuben sandwiches in the QC.

Ummm.. Ok, I just said it should be a side show attraction not to remove the kraut and dressing thus making it simply a corned beef sandwich..

Chompies in Arizona has the best Rueben's won't help much with the people in Iowa but if you get the chance that restaurant is awesome

I love a good Reuben, but they are so hit and miss, I hate to order them. I don't know if I've ever had a good one in DM.

Capital Pub & Hot Dog has a good one; I've ordered it three times now, and it was good every time. At most places the corned beef is not good (or they don't know how to cut it correctly); I HATE stringy, nasty corned beef.

With all of this kraut talk, I could really go for brat with some mustard and kraut on top of it.

Over/Under on how many saurekraut haters in this thread that have never actually tried it?

Anyone ever made their own 'kraut? My science class in middle school tried, but it was a total fail IIRC.
