Not sure if this has been posted yet.

Got this from ESPN...

The last three single seeded teams that beat the Cyclones in the NCAA Tourney have gone on to win the National Title...

2012 - Kentucky
2005 - North Carolina
2000 - Michigan State

The solution to playing a 1 or 2 seed in their backyard is to win more games in the regular season. Someday we will get that 1 seed...someday.

All of those games also occurred in the opponent's home state.

I almost posted this yesterday. I was going to congratulate OSU on their championship.

I'm not sure why they put the "single seed" caveat in there, it's not needed

Because there was this one double digit seed that didn't win a championship.

I got this alert from ESPN yesterday, too, and was scratching my head wondering why they added that "single-seed" caveat...

Then I remembered. Ugh.

We were a 2 seed in 2000. Shameful that MSU got to play the regional final basically at home that year.

Yes, I have no problem playing OSU as a #2 in Dayton, just KU got to play in KC in the first two rounds (I refuse to call that Round 3, smh). They earned with their season performance.

But getting to play a "home" game in a regional final is kinda of a joke. On the other hand, that stuff is awarded years in advance, so some of it cannot be helped. At least Indiana does not get to play in Indianapolis, but I am sure Louisville will not be too far.

Probably isn't as big an issue for the Final Four site since most of the tickets are harder for fans to get a hold of and make it a true "home" situation.

Haven't read the rest of the responses, but my immediate thought: That streak will end this year. OSU will probably make the final four, given the west bracket being destroyed, but I'm guessing they will be the weakest team at the final four.

It seemed like there were a ton of Ohio State fans there (and then a ton of Indiana fans for the second game, lots of whom snagged empty seats in the Iowa State section after our fans left). Assuming that 75% of the tickets were sold before the teams were announced, Ohio State/Indiana fans must have paid a fortune for tickets on the secondary market.

Does the NCAA get a cut of tickets sold on the ticket sites? I even wonder if they get a cut from the on-site scalpers. There were about 10 guys who showed up at 9am and took positions on the streets around the stadium in Dayton (a few with "I need tickets" signs). It was like this group of scalpers had "permission" from the stadium and police. It made me wonder if they were also paying a fee to someone so that they could be there. And I wish I could have seen what would happen if someone else tried to buy/sell on their turf.

Now, the big question, would Iowa State fans pay the price to pack the arena if we played in Minneapolis, Omaha, or Kansas City?

We won enough to get a #1 in 2000, but still got robbed by the committee. Still played the #1 overall seed in their backyard.

We would have a huge showing in any of those venues. We usually have a great showing in KC for Big12 tourney and it would be even better for the NCAA tourney. If we had been put in the KC bracket this year we would have rivaled KU for number of fans at the games.
