My problem with Cael is that he gutted the program, seting it back years if not killing it. Oh and cost us a national championship the first year he left.

If you had a snapshot of '08 versus today I'd say ISU overall is in a much better national position.
It would've been one thing had PSU reached out to Cael, and Cael said thanks but no thanks...then PSU called again and again before finally making an offer he couldn't refuse. But to know Cael is the one who reached out to them, and took wrestlers and recruits with him, makes it hard not to lose some respect for him. Then again, there are always two sides to every story. Would like to know JP's side.
Cael destroyed ISU wrestling. We are getting to a point where we should consider dropping the sport.
I thought it was a great interview and he was very honest. At first when he left i was mad/frustrated (why can't we have nice things?), but i get he needed to do what was best for him and he made the call.

Listened to the interview, and I was surprised this thread didn't pop up yesterday. It seemed like Cael was not prepared at all to answer that question, and was surprised it was asked. When you agree to interview with a Des Moines radio station, you should almost expect that to be brought up.

HAHA! That's a funny article. Soccer Coach scratching his head over the move to the Big 12, then asks, "Hey, what about us?" Um, when your program is worth a $20+ million TV contract, please, come talk to us. Soccer is definitely on the rise. It wouldn't surprise me to see in 15 - 20 years it atually being somewhat of a big sport on TV. Most of the US has youth programs. Programs that plain and simple, never existed when I was a kid. It's definitely an interesting thought, soccer replacing wrestling. It's definitely gaining in popularity. It actaully could be a big deal in 15 years or so, with how many kids play it now.
It's good to know that you set the rules for who can post and when. I don't have to be a wrestling nerd to have an opinion about the guy. And explain this: why would Pollard bother to hire Cael if only a few years later he "refused to endorse the sport"? What the heck does that even mean?
There was a ton of disrespect given to the wrestling program in CS's first years. It has since changed a bit, but anyone close to the program knew why he started looking elsewhere. Hell, we started hearing rumors that CS was ****** about a year before he left.
It means that when Cael was asking for wrestling facilities, JP basically told him that it was never going to happen. Our facilities were way outdated, and instead of improving conditions to get an olympic wrestling facility in Ames, it was snubbed because the thought was that ISU wrestling was too hot of a job to turn away CS.
Also, I was just pointing out something that everyone in the wrestling forums already knew, and something I found to be anecdotal. The people that know about the sport/team tend to have more credibility than those that don't.

Cael helped ISU in just as many ways as ISU helped Cael. He brought recognition to the sport of wrestling and ISU wrestling in particular by winning the his titles, going undefeated and winning the gold at Athens. Along with that, he gave almost 10 years of his life to ISU as a student-athlete, coach and ambassador. I have also never heard him say one negative thing about ISU and has always been a humble person even with everything he has accomplished. I definately don't blame him for leaving for a school that was willing to pay him more and dump more money into the wrestling program which gave him more opportunity to succeed.

Well said. There was an arrogance and complacency at ISU regarding Cael. "He'll never leave, he wrestled here, this is his dream job after all, etc."
I heard the interview on KXNO, and as always, he came across as humble and understated. People hate him because it's obvious the program misses him so much.
So a question to all of you that are against Cael, are any of you part of the club and totally know what took place? Or are you making your own beliefs on what happened.
