Rashad Vaughn - Not going to ISU

Re: Rashad Vaughn

That's not the greatest news for our chances of getting his commitment, but I think he seems to have a desire to stay closer to home and I think he has as big of a chance to thrive in CFH's system as any other team. The way Fred lets his guards loose to shoot or create on their wown would allow him to show off his skills for the next level

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Isu never had cfh, he's building a powerhouse and its only time until he gets the recruits like Roy.

Let's not go over board. Fred has elevated our program and we have shown some promise in recruiting but we haven't really beaten any powerhouse programs for recruits and we still haven't been able to sign a post player outside of Percy. Also for all the noise we've made in MN we are still O-fer there with HS recruits.

Even if Fred can build a powerhouse, which is far from a given, we are at least 5 years away from being able to go toe to toe with a UNC or similar program on the recruiting trail.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

ISU doesn't beat Roy for recruits.

UNC is basically in the exact same position as we are in regards to making the tourney so it's sort of funny to hear posters bash their team.

Also, when a team like UNC or Kentucky is down for a year like they are now it probably actually makes them even more attractive to big time recruits. Now you can go to UNC and be their savior.

We beat KU for Heinrich until Floyd left, but I can't remember if that was Roy or Larry Brown. I'm confident that as Fred builds the program, he will compete with anybody for the midwest kids he wants.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I think ISU can make a decent argument for Vaughn if he has designs on being one and done. Unless McAdoo and Hairston stick around, I'm not sure UNC is even going to be competing for ACC championships in 2014 and 2015. Paige and Tokoto have both been disappointing in my opinion. Bullock would be gone.

Roy is bringing in more talent, but his only great teams at UNC have been when he has 4-5 NBA guys on them (Lawson, Hansbrough, Ellington, Green or Henson, Zeller, Marshall, Barnes) and I doubt they'll have that much talent when it's time for Vaughn to show up. Many of his recent big-time recruits have been somewhat disappointing in their first couple of years (Hairston, Drew, Wear bros., Tokoto), while Niang has come in and started put up 10+ points a game for ISU.

Vaughn could come to ISU and be featured, and he already seems to be building a relationship with one of the guys who should be a big player on the that team in Thomas.

that was Roy, he also got collison at KU and then as everyone knows he got Barnes to UNC. Not surprised if Vaughn would go to UNC, but I wouldn't count CFH out yet!

Re: Rashad Vaughn

ISU's chances with Vaughn have never been favorable with his large list of competing schools who have great things to sell to recruits, but ISU has it's positives.

If ISU can get Vaughn, great, if not, work on developing guys like SDW, Okoro, and Morris, and keep looking for that Cato clone...

Stop being so positive. You're making me think we have a chance... When he commits elsewhere, and I have a mega-meltdown with about 20 other clowns - I'm blaming you. :jimlad:

Agree though - we have a greater chance than most national recruitniks think. Still a climb. If he's always (secretly) had designs on playing for a blue-blood, we were always screwed anyway.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

The bigger picture is if we continue to get better, we will continue to attract talent from Minnesota, and that is huge. Need to get the playing on the road monkey off our back though...

Re: Rashad Vaughn

You must be 12 if you didn't know Roy Williams coached for KU. I still forget sometimes that he doesn't coach there anymore.

Cykofan said that we beat Roy for a recruit, and used Hinrich as an example.

I was pointing out how stupid that example is because he ended up at KU. He and I must have a different definition of winning a recruiting battle.

My original point stands, that we don't beat Roy for recruits.

It was a good point because Kirk was a firm commit until Floyd took the NBA job so ISU had beat Roy out for the recruit until Tim defaulted.

That is a pretty loose definition of recruiting win then. Maybe Roy won by default, but at the end of the day, I can't count a guy who ended up playing 4 years for Roy as a recruiting win over the man.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

New idea, shut up about Roy and UNC. They can bring it while tearing it up NIT style.

I'm pretty sure ol ag knew roy coached at KU. It's just another chance to take a shot at Fred, and we know that he never misses the opportunity to do that.

Are you nuts? I love Fred. Us not beating Roy for recruits historically has nothing to do with Fred and I certainly wouldn't hold that against him.

I'm just not counting a "coulda, shoulda, woulda" like Hinrich as a victory against a guy that ultimately signed him.
