Flyover at Kinnick

There is an easy way to solve every one's concerns. Just make sure that the pilots flying those jets are all Iowa State graduates. They did a fantastic job flying over JTS last year. (By the way, one of the pilots was my cousin's son.)

Think the guy at the TCU-Navy game went lower. I think he actually snagged someones hotdog on the way through.

Wow! How did he get by with that? When you can look down at the jet flying past the press box, that's too low.

As for the pilots who violated the altitude limit at the Iowa game, they weren't "IMMEDIATELY discharged." The lead pilot lost his flying privileges and eventually resigned, but the other 3 pilots continued their service with their flying privileges intact.

I believe they also use them to practice being at a certain place (the stadium) at a certain time (end of national anthem). Because that might come in handy sometime.

+1

All flyovers are used for practicing time on target or time to target flights. Also, the flights from the jets home station to the place of landing also accomplishes certain training that the pilots are required to maintain.

Lets get one of these to fly over:

This flyover will have two Cyclones in it and zero Squawks!

Not ******, just never seen the point. I didnt realize these were used for training, so if they would have been in the air anyway then fine. I guess I never really get excited about that sort of thing.

So you think it's a waste of money or you just don't like it? You seem to be wavering.

True, the lead pilot was not immediately discharged. He actually turned in his wings and in return the Air Force did not court martial him. He was given an Article 15 (one step below a court martial) and lost his wings. All the other pilots (more than 3) lost there instructor qualifications and had to earn them back. So yes, the other pilots are still flying but they all have a black mark in their records that will follow them for the rest of the Air Force careers.

those are some big airplanes

Afterburner/full mil power call it what you want those old jet engines on the BUFs have to be the loudest still in service. They do leave an impression when on an OB run.

Hard to beat the A-10s that flew over the last year at Arrowhead. I nearly lost my stuff.

I will never forget the year Dubuque had A-10's fly for the 4th of July demonstration. They used to have "targets" and such on the river and various aircraft would perform combat maneuvers in a simulated air-ground battle. I recall a few years watching old P-51's which where great but I lost my **** when the A-10's rolled in. Such an amazing tank!

Oh, the other one I loved was walking out of my house to the garage and having a B-2 do a low pass right overhead.
