Hey everyone.. I'm going to be purchasing a dog I the next couple of months most likely and was looking for advice. Im thinking about a pug but still open for ideas. I was hoping you guys could give me some ideas as long as pictures of some different breeds of dogs. I do know I want a smaller dog. (something below the knees) and dog must be family friendly.

Thanks!

I have a pitbull, dont listen to what the news and facts say, they are family friendly. In fact, I have sextuplets and they all ride him around like a horse. Its so cute!!!!! Good luck on your dog purchasing goals in 2012!!!!!

We have a dachshund (midi, 13 pounds). He is great and just loves the family. Lots of personality. Even when he isn't doing anything, he is fun because of his shape!

You should really look at or think about a sheltie(mini lassie). They are a very mild mannered dog and are good, trainable dogs. I would also suggest an english bulldog, but they are pretty expensive. They are very easy going dogs and dogs don't take a lot of effort to raise after being potty trained. Pretty lazy dog. So it really depends on what your in the market for.

Exactly! It is seriously all about the owner and how the dog raised.

Bassett Hound. My family has had bassett hounds for almost my whole life. They are really sweet dogs. Ours have always been good with kids and they are just really good pets.

I remember once when my firstborn was a toddler and we were at a home with a bassett hound. We found him out in the yard with the dog, tugging on his tongue, and the dog just let him do it! That is family-friendly.

I'm pretty close to a vet (not as close as Chris) and can give you a little dog advice. Pugs are great family dogs. Very sweet as well. The biggest concern with pugs, however, is that they are at a bit of a health risk due to their noses.

If your biggest two factors are small dog and family dog, the quietest is probably the beagle. The biggest concern with them is they can't get their noses off the ground.

I got to agree with the 2 others who said Basset Hounds. Dumb as hell, but really sweet dogs and great with kids. Only problem with Basset Hounds are they do have some health issues that lower the breeds average life expectancy.

We have a rescue beagle, great dog but doesn't recall very well. :)

My brother had a bassett hound mix and it was the same exact way. We would even lay a kid against it and use it as a bean bag and it wouldn't do anything. And to boot, it was a 3 legged dog. If I could get a god of that mix again I would have one tomorrow.

Don't they also have a tendency to howl at night?
