Get me lost in Iowa

St Donatus! Being originally from Dubuque, one of the only things that keeps me coming home for weddings is knowing that just about every wedding reception will be catered by Kalmes.

Ha, I didn't know it was that popular. My in-laws live in Ankeny but they are all from Dubuque and they used to have a huge family (like entire family) farmhouse out near that place so I've been there a couple times. Very good stuff.

Also, what is the other place in Dubuque that is really old but it burnt down a few years ago? If I am not mistaken, they rebuilt it and it burnt down again! Sad stuff. We went there for Thanksgiving one year.

Florenceville, IA - Google Maps

Florenceville, IA is adjacent to Granger, MN. It probably has 60 people a nice little park, and a bar, but for some reason it isn't on the Iowa map, and plenty of people who live within a 30 mile radius don't know it exists. It sits in a pretty little valley, right along the Upper Iowa River. Beautiful part of the world.

That is a pretty area. We've gone camping with the in-laws a little further north in Lanesboro.

My wife grew up in Quasqueton IA, but Masonville, IA is about 5 miles away. The town is 3 streets.

Podunk Center, about 10 miles south of Winterset. Town made the national news back in the 60s when it was offered for sale. Consisted on one or two houses, a filling station/general store, a 2 or 3 unit motel and a post office.

is this my Cousin David?

i have family near waterville, neat area. i grew up between waukon and decorah, just north of Frankville.

My name is not David, but for as many people as I'm related to up there, I could be your cousin.

I am a proud Waterville Elementary alum. Waterville will never be mistaken for any kind of cultural mecca, but the countryside is absolutely beautiful and it has some of the best gravels for an epic road trip anywhere.

Wright,Iowa..Mahaska county,no pavement, not sure what else is there... Union Mills, lived in new sharon for 18 years and never knew it existed until i voted it, i dont believe there is any pavement in this town either, but at least a church.

I gotta throw Riceville in to the pot. I had never heard of it until I dated a Ricevillian. They have a nice lake and a place to eat, I'm not sure what else.

I don't know if Riceville is small enough for this thread. It still (not for much longer) has its own high school and is probably about 750 people.

For rural Iowa, that isn't that obscure.

Well for a city boy like myself, that place was pretty damn obscure.

Toddville, one of my dad's friends bought the school there and turned it into...well I dont know what he turned it into.

Paris, my grandparents lived up there on the Wapsi. Its right outside of Central City.

That, and it sits right on Hwy 9. It might be on its way to becoming one of the towns in this thread though. As Al stated they're trying to raise money to keep the high school open and it's not sounding good.
