If it weren't for the Twins, I wouldn't care about baseball.

Eric: "What do they do at Harvard?"
Vince: "They row."
Eric: "No, they crew."

Football is by far the top sport. Baseball is just too slow a sport for me to sit and watch. Same with hockey. I tried to watch some of the Penguins/Flyers game the other night and got bored after 2 minutes.

Just trying to stir the pot... I gave some reasons why I think it's still baseball... Why football?

You don't have to convince me that baseball is a great game. It is my favorite sport. Football has just become bigger in this country.

Football appeals more to the casual fan. It's faster, more scoring, hits, etc. Football season starts during the most exciting time in baseball, and from my experience, a lot of fans seem to be more excited about the start of football season.

I think you could put a marque football game on TV during the same time as the World Series (especially the 2005 or 2006 Series), and there would still be a decent rating for the football game.

If you put a baseball game on TV at the same time of the Super Bowl, no one would watch it.

I hear this a lot. But that's what I love about the sport. There's a lot of building tension and drama. Each pitch has it's own drama. So does each at bat, each inning, and each game.

The best analogy I can think of is baseball is like a good suspense movie. There's a lot of character driven, quieter scenes where the tension slowly builds, with a few action scenes mixed in.

Football is more like an action movie with great visual effects, car chases, and explosions. It's also entertaining, but in different ways. Choosing one sport over the other is just a personal preference.

To continue with the analogy:

Hockey is like foreign art films. Not very many people go to see them except hard core fans. It takes a lot of talent to make a good foreign film or to play in the NHL, but I wouldn't pay to see either one. And in both foreign films and hockey I can't pronounce any of the names.

The NBA is like comedy films. With a comedy it's not about the director or script, but about the star. I'll see a Will Ferrell movie no matter the plot. The NBA isn't about the team so much as the star. (Where are all the Bulls jerseys now that Jordan is gone?) And although people enjoy watching both, nobody takes either one very seriously (including the players it seems most of the time.)

Golf is about the only sport a 3 yr old Tiger to am 80 yr old Arnie can play around the country. Although it does not have the legions of fans, it is playable your whole life.

No I am not joking. My kids can play any sport they want just never ever soccer, also my kids can go to any college they want that is not named Iowa, UNI, or Nebraska.

What's up with the hatred of soccer? Were you jealous of the soccer players getting all the chicks in high school?

As Vanilla pointed out we didn't have soccer in our high school. I prefer football, basketball, wrestling and track to a bunch of people running around kicking a ball. Just my opinion but I prefer what I consider to be the core sports.
