***official Texas postgame thread***

As soon as I saw the "Texas has no chance" thread I got that bad feeling in my gut. I'm still reeling from last night. I have learned the lesson over and over again during my lifetime. Last night was a reminder. Some of those calls last night especially in the second half must have just made it look futile to them...Hope that the tourney goes better...

I am still unbelievably angry this morning. I'm tired of this team playing so hot and cold. I honestly just wish basketball season was over now.

I also woke up angry.

I don't like that something as silly as basketball has the ability to ruin my weekend. I'm happier when our team is complete garbage and never has a chance compared to when we blow a chance like this.

I'm usually psyched for the big dance, too, even though ISU has never been it since I've been a fan (06). Now I'm not. Somehow this game managed to sour everything.

****ing sports.

This game def killed our momentum/excitement and also gave us huge dose of reality check.

We need to re-focus and let's play some NCAA tourney games.

My glass is half full and while it stinks we don't get a shot at Missouri again (assuming we play like we did vs Baylor), I hope this does get the guys fired up and Coach can use the tape to show how we need to play our style and can't give an inch to any team, or we go home.

Win the first NCAA game, all is forgotten.

Its really not all that bad. Unless we won the B12 Tourney, I don't think our seed was going to change significantly. This team seems to play better when we are challenged. Now we will likely be a underdog in each round of the tourney. I don't think that is bad in this case. We should be fresh, well prepared, and focused. If we shoot the ball well over the next few games, we can make a run.

Yeah, a tourney championship doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things....Having a chance to beat Mizzery before they leave the conference doesn't matter in the scheme of things....Having a chance to beat or play KU again in Kansas City....

You're adding words that weren't in my statement. Again, the loss didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Our season did not become a failure last night. Should we be disappointed? Of course. Time to give up? Hell no. We had several letdown games in the conference season; @ Baylor, @ Texas, @ OSU. Those are games that reminded the team not to start taking things for granted. I'm certainly hopeful that last night will end up being the same sort of thing.

All the things you mentioned would have been laughable when this season started. Do we pack it in because none of those things happened? Is it alright to be excited that we finished third in the conference and are back in the NCAA tournament, or do we whine about not quite overachieving enough?

Take a step back and remember that we are a patchwork of transfers playing for a second year coach picked to finish at the bottom of the league. We had a crap game, but it was at a time that hurt us a lot less than it would have at other points of the season. If we looked dazed again next week and get flushed in the first round there is a little more reason to be upset with the team's performance, but even then this will have been a hugely successful season.

Perspective guys. The program is moving the right direction, but there is still a long way to go. No doubt it's typical post-loss frustration, but I hope the team is more optimistic than everyone here.

When the goal is to win (and that is the goal of a major college basketball team), losses matter.

Particulalry late season losses to bubble teams. Perhaps not because the loss negatively affected ISU's NCAA tourney seed (although that is certainly possible), but perhaps more so because it exposed weaknesses in ISU abilities and strategies that the next opponent can try to exploit.

UT laid out a nice game plan for beating ISU that will not go unnoticed by ISU's next opponent.

Very well said. It certainly goes without saying that it's a reality that we are not going to win all of our games. Losses are also an opportunity to close those gaps in our own game plan. I couldn't agree more that Barnes had a well orchestrated plan to keep us uncomfortable. That loss certainly hurts us in that regard, but we have a chance to learn a lot from that loss and a week to shore up our issues.

I thought the refs were bad, but we played worse.

If Texas was on the bubble, is there any possibility that the BigXII WANTED Texas to win this game to ensure one more team in the tourney? Just a thought and I don't think it is too far-fetched. All season long I've thought BigXII officials were mediocre at best.
I'm not blaming the refs, but when a team plays as bad as Texas did in the first half but are in the double bonus while only having 3 fouls called on them (until the late foul on Royce), I feel as though they weren't watching the same game on both ends of the court.

Refs weren't bad, our ability to stop the drive was bad. Texas drove at will and we fouled ALOT trying to stop it.

Effort and focus seemed poor from the start. That's the biggest PO factor for me.

Reality check for these guys that they aren't world beaters without an attitude and chip on their shoulder.

Just an awful display last night. Still have steam coming out of my ears over it.

It doesn't really matter how I would do coaching against CFH, it matters how CFH coaches against his opponent. CFH wasn't able to counter Barnes' strategy, and ISU lost.

Regarding the bolded part, you are correct. On the whole, UT is better athletically than ISU, and it showed last night. They locked down on ISU's three point shooters, and crashed the boards. UT got 16 offensive rebounds.

Scotty got OWNED last night and Allen had trouble as well. It's been this way when going up against the more athletic backcourts.

If game plans beat teams, all teams would be winless after their first loss. Unless someone has a game plan to clone Jacoven Brown, and make us miss the threes that we normally make. By now, everyone knows what everyone else's strengths and weaknesses are (particularly in conference, when you've seen everyone twice already).

It's an entirely different thing to put it into practice. Just ask K State and Baylor.

Winning does require more than a game plan. It also requires the athletic ability to execute the game plan. ISU is going into the NCAA as a lower seed (probably 8 or worse). Thus, they are likely going to playing a team (or teams) with good athletic talent who can try to do what UT did.

This is just flat out wrong. Coaches don't have time to be concerned about what is going on in other conferences during conference play. Once tourney opponents are announced, the coaches will grab video of the latest games and try to learn what the can over the next few days. Until ISU should happen to run into another opponent from the Big 12, any tourney opponent will be relying heavily on recent game video when devising strategy.

Who was J'Covan Brown flapping his jaw at towards the end of the game? Was there something going on between him and the crowd? Or is that the new way of talking smack without getting T'd up?.. by tallking smack to the air around you.
