I think some on this board are seriously underestimating what Herman's role is going to be at OSU. He's bringing his system with him

Fail. He is going to go learn Meyer's system. And possibly add bits and pieces of his system to Meyer's system, if Meyer likes a specific idea.
He is going there to teach Meyer's system to the offense, not to install his own offense. Saying he is bringing his system with him is a bit of a stretch.
You may both be right. They are virtually the same system. That's one of the reason Meyer chose him.
Meyer's spread option is, foundationally, the same as Herman's. QB runs the show (and has to run and pass). Thin out the defense to open up running lanes. The whole shebang. I'd be surprised if Meyer doesn't implement the Jet philosophy to keep Big Ten defenses on the field and scrambling - it's a neat twist to have a coach who can teach that.
Simply put - you'd have a hard time distinguishing Florida's offensive philosophy from Iowa State's, and now that those two coaches are together, it will be impossible to say which element is Herman's and which is Meyer's.

Not sure if anyone heard Mark Mangino on Bill King this morning but he sounds like he is more than ready to get back into coaching. Said he's heard from several programs just recently. Bill King mentioned ISU after the interview as a place of interest and even said he didn't think CPR would hesitate looking at Mangino. Certainly seemed like OC was the direction Mangino was going toward. Anyway, found it interesting. Personally, I think Mangino would be a walk off 9th inning grand slam hire at OC...not really sure if CPR or Mangino would think that but I do!

I wouldn't mind having that fatty on the sidelines, he's a good coach (and seems like a good guy).
Wrong, Urban has already said that he will be his own offensive coordinator and call his own plays. He said Herman's role will be to help implement the system and coach QB's. IMO, if you aren't calling the plays, you aren't really the offensive coordinator.
Still a good move for Herman though.
He's not. He got banned from attending his son's high school football games, he was so obnoxious. He is incendiary and at times out of control.
I'm not saying you don't want him on your sidelines, but you also shouldn't take him on without knowing exactly who you are getting.
I think when he's not in volcanic mode, he may be pleasant enough. But ignore his volatility at your peril.
I agree with your main point - talent/skill wise, he'd be great.
I don't see Jamie going with Mangino, assuming he has veto power in regards to the hire.

I'm not denying that Mangino is a good coach but he doesn't strike me as a CPR type of guy. CPR has said before he likes to have coaches that are "teachers" foremost. Coaches that can develope and mold young men.

If we hired Mangino my biggest concern would be retention, not his personality. Also, the reason I'd be worried about retaining Mangino wouldn't be because he'd leave for a better job, but rather that he'd have a heart attack and die.

Mangino won an Orange Bowl coaching KANSAS. Yes I think he would be a fine hire.
he most certainly can do that. do you think kansas brought in orange bowl championship level talent? 12-1 talent?
As far as "young men"... not sure how anyone can address that either way. none of us have ever talked to him or 99% of any college coordinators.

You could always raid the Rice Owl staff again. They still run the same stuff they did when Herman was there which is pretty much the same as he ran for ISU.
