I generally like UNI, I dont like when they beat us in FB or BB, which they have beat us alot lately in BB.

I am quite annoyed that we beat the same 4 teams as them in South Padre invitational and they got the trophy over us because of less points allowed.

Basically the reason for this thread is to say, Wednesday is the unofficial championship game, and actually I think the only right thing to do if we win is to give us this trophy... either way, I know its petty, but I am just annoyed...

Agree. Not thrilled on the set up. The point of a round robin is to play everyone. Is what it is though, thrilled with the victories. Big test for us on Wednesday night. UNI will slow the game down. Will make us play good defense and score in the half court. Should be a great test.

The thing that sucks is we won by a larger margin in all the games and in the games actually at South Padre we gave up less points. Oh well. Can't wait for Wednesday to get here. I think we will win.

The winner should have been who averaged the largest margin of victory. (and I don't even know who it was, but that seems more logical)

As for Wednesday, it's going to be a damn good game. I'm glad this one is at Hilton.

Yes they got one.

Agreed, the South Padre set-up was stupid. Why not have, gasp, an actual freaking tourney with a winners and losers bracket?

I hope we can right this "wrong" with a big win Wed. Not that it will be easy. UNI will be ready and they are always a tough out. When was our last win against them? I know we lost there last year as well as the year before in Ames (I remember that as I was there).

Yes they got one.

to be honest, the trophy was nothing more than a nicely framed photograph of south padre island that said 2011 south padre invitational champions at the bottom. i definitely agree though, that the champ should have been determined by point differential and not who gave up the fewest points, absolutely silly.

Couldn't agree more. Especially when teams like UNI play for low scores and others do not.

Let UNI have the trophy, er, plaque for the South Padre Invite. We shall beat them when it really matters.

We can make our own unified trophy Wednesday night. CW/Toyota can then frame it into a plaque:

REAL Winners of S Padre Island Extravaganza.

This has the makings of a great rivalry trophy for the ISU-UNI MBB game. How confused would the rest of the country be if the Iowa State vs. Northern Iowa game started being referred to as "The Battle of South Padre".

Points allowed is a really stupid first tie breaker.

Who plays a better game? A team who wins 12-10 or a team who wins 112-12?

I could see points scored or points allowed as a second tie breaker, but anything other than margin of victory is kind of silly as a first tie breaker.

It's a symptom of our day. We can't use margin of victory because someone, somewhere may just run up the score in a game. I'm sure a team that is losing might understand what is going on if their opponent leaves their starters in for an extra two minutes to win the tournament.:skeptical:

The trophy doesn't matter. What matters is the defense and rebounding we finally saw out of this team in Tejas. Let's hope they continue to improve on those.

Yep, defense and rebounding > trophy. Good job UNI, you won a tourney that we had the same record in haha.

I thought "The Battle of South Padre" was the battle between your antibiotics and the clap you picked up on South Padre.
