Hawk postgame, Miller begging for Illinois for BCS bid to open things up for Iowa to go bowling.

Ok, what? Ill has 3 losses??? Then MU, KU, OU, and Texas should be in from the big12.

Basically the only chance for Iowa is that OU loses today, and beats the winner of KU/MU, which would make the national championship tOSU v LSU. That may open up #2 in the big10 to a BCS game.

He thinks Ill, Mich and OSU get in? Should only be OSU in the BCS.

A conference cannot have three teams go to the BCS. Michigan has no chance to get in. Illinois might have had a shot if they didn't lay an egg against Iowa, but then Iowa wouldn't be bowl eligible at all.

Michigan got pasted by a 1-aa and drilled at home by oregon. Then lost the last 2 games of the year. They will drop out of the top 25.

Illinois has 3 losses also. How does that make sense for them to jump all those teams with one or two losses?

Its OSU and that is it. Their only chance is that OSU gets into the BCS Championship game which moves everyone up one bowl

One of the Big 11 tie-ins IS the BCS Bowl. There are 8 teams ahead of Iowa, no way they make a Big 10 tie in Bowl even if another Big 11 team made it (no way in hell). There are something like 46 teams already with 7 wins ahead of the also and 13'ish with another game to play with 6 wins...

Ugh.

Illinois lost to Iowa. IOWA.

No way they deserve a BCS bid. And to think...if Illinois beats Iowa...today based on OSU beating Michigan, they win the Big 10. IMO, Illinois is the best Big 10 team - they just didn't show it.

Yay you Iowa...you actually had a say in something - you won your bowl game already - you just didn't know it yet.

I mean, c'mon - I have little respect for anyone that thinks Iowa deserves to play in any bowl game this season. Get real.

Jon Miller must be sniffing the same crap that Mr Zipperhead drunk Zablet has for the last 50 yrs. Zable has about the most warped sense of reality when it comes to the little bumblebees and he is the one solely responsible for my hate for EIU that will be named EIUCC in the very near future hopefully.

OSU wouldn't jump WV if that were to happen.

Ok, I was looking into this. How could Ill get into the BCS? If OSU is picked for the nat championship, then the rose does not select big10 #2, they get to select from the top 14 in the BCS.

Even then, Iowa is too far down the pecking order because Indiana, Mich St, and Purdue have 7 wins and must be selected before them. Iowa is just not going bowling this year.

We need to cybookie Iowa going to a bowl, cause I took a bath today, and I need to win some of it back.

Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's a virtual certainty that Iowa will play in a bowl. Unfortunately, how good (or bad) a team is doesn't really matter to the bowl selection committees. What matters is butts in the seats, and Iowa will probably take 30,000 rednecks with them to the Insight Bowl or the Champs Sports Bowl. It's all about $$$, and Iowa will travel better than Purdue, Indiana, NW, Mich St, et al. It's a lead-pipe lock. Gotta love the bowl system!

How? What bowl do you see them going to? They CANNOT go to the one of the big10 bowls, it is impossible. So their best shot is like the armed forces bowl or something like that that gets to select an at large. BUT they MUST choose a 7 win BCS team over Iowa.

In other years, I may agree with you.

Yet there are so many fans livid with the current state of the program because...

- How poorly they did against an easy schedule
- Off-field issues
- Staff complaints
- Head coach salary and back-to-back disappointing seasons

I wouldn't expect Iowa to travel well this year at all if they got a bid.

Someone needs to do the math for this. How many bowls are there, and how many 7+ win teams are there? Then we can know if Iowa even has a shot at a bowl.
