Laptop Purchasing Help

Have you ever bought a laptop off New Egg? What do you think of this?

Newegg.com - SONY VAIO EH Series VPCEH24FX/W Notebook Intel Core i3 2330M(2.20GHz) 15.5" 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW Intel HD Graphics 3000

What specs should I be looking for? I was thinking Pentium i3, 500GB Hard Drive, 4 GB Memory, beyond that not really sure.

Using it for :
-Home Use
-Web browsing (stream lots of stuff online since I don't have cable)
-Want to be able to hook it up to my TV to watch shows off the Internet
-Itunes (about a 50 GB music collection on my current desktop)
-Personal Finance Software
-DVD Burning
 
My personal prefs: I buy TONS of stuff off of Newegg; except for laptops. Many times you can get the same or better prices elsewhere for laptops. Not sure why, cause newegg rocks on so many other things. Also, I'd never buy a Sony laptop. Again not sure why; just don't like them. Dell, HP, are my favs for lappys.
 
Personally I like the Lenovo Thinkpads because they are built really well but you'll likely pay a little more for the quality. I don't know much about Sony laptops but Dell and HP seem to make pretty good laptops too IMO.
 
I have bought 3 laptops from Newegg, 2 Acers and 1 Lenovo

I have been pleased with all 3 laptops

I usually rely very heavily upon the User Reviews
 
NewEgg is fine, but I recommend Asus for a brand. I have had one for over a year, treated it kinda bad, and it keeps ticking.
 
My main computer laptop is a VAIO. Had it for 18 months, no issues.

I liked the ASUS too, but the VAIO has a much better keyboard feel.
 
Is 6-Gigs of RAM beneficial. I don't do Gaming, but stream YouTube and download movies from iTunes. I don't mind paying for extra memory, but is it necessary ??

3.If you buy an HP get the mega deluxe service program.

I've had 3 HP laptops in past 5 years. All were terrible. Poor batteries, they run hot, two had fan issues, one had issues with wireless switch. They may have a good processor but the rest is crap.
 
I have a Vaio EB series that I bought the day after Thanksgiving last year. It's been a great computer, and it's much better than the piece of **** Dell it replaced.

My advice is to shop around. My Vaio was actually cheaper direct through Sony than it was anywhere else.

I would get the most you can afford in your spending range. 8gb should be fine, but with applications the way they are, they will continue to require more in the future. Also, don't ignore the vid-card. Those make a huge difference in performance.

I was a big fan of ASUS because of all the features I found per dollar spent. Definitely shop around. Sounds like Sony is doing well atm. Look at NewEgg.com, TigerDirect.com, Amazon.com, watch Woot.com, and do your comparisons on cnet.com. I usually trust the user's opinions more than experts. Much more hand's on time.

Ditto. Lenovo Thinkpads are built like a tank and seem to run forever. If this T60 ever dies I'm going right back with another Lenovo.

Lenovos are the business standard. They are very reliable and perform well but they have their downsides as well. Mostly battery life and weight. These things are like twice as heavy as other laptops with comparable specs.

I've had an Asus EEE net book for 4 years at home that has seen way more use than just browsing, and its been great.

Hmmmm. I would question which HP laptops you were buying? They do run warm, that's the processor working. Dell, Asus, Acer, and even the mighty Apple all have problems with one user or another.

6GB is plenty for what your going to be doing. PLENTY.

i5 is a great processor, but depends on what your doing. i3 might be more towards your liking. How much are you storing on your HDD? Music, vidoe, etc?
 
HP laptops have been problems...my duaghter' was rebuilt 3 times in two years. Mine had three trip to the repair depot in the first 6 months. Cheap...you get what you pay for.
 
My HP is still working great *knock on wood*, but I've only had it for about four months.
