Please join your fellow Cyclones at Trophy's this Saturday for the Offical Cyclone Game watch of ISU vs KU.

We will also be there for all televised Cyclone Basketball games.

We have recently met with the owner of Trophy's and he is fully commited to our Game Watches. So come out and join us. It will be a great time!

Trophy's is good lots of TV's plus a quick drive to my house. Connnected to Plaza Lanes for those who are wondering, on Euclid or Douglas same road but change names at MLK.

Hey,

Thanks for the update. I want to say that I merged to the two threads and put them under ISU General. Instead of having two game watch threads in two sections, I thought one thread would be better and easier to find.

I had a very unpleasant experience at Trophy's last weekend. I have Dish Network and did not get the game at home (I was not able to attend the game because my wife is 8 months pregnant). I called up Trophy's Friday afternoon and asked if they would be broadcasting the CU @ ISU game. I was told that the Iowa game was the feature game there, but they would be showing the ISU game on a few TV's. So I show up at 11am with my wife and 2 kids. We order appetizers and food. 11:45 rolls around and the game still is not on. I go up to the bar and ask the bartender if they planned on showing the game. She said that it wasn't coming in. I asked what they were going to do about it. She said they would work on it. I watched her fumble around with the remote, yell at the tv and then go back to helping other customers. By this time the other 3 groups of Cyclone fans had finished their drinks and headed to another location. So I am stuck there watching the Iowa game with the place full of screaming Hawk fans. I asked the waitress "what are you going to do about my bill" she says "what do you mean" I explained that the only reason I came there was to watch the ISU game and obviously I didn't care to see the Hawks play. She went and talked to the bartender and came back and told me that there was nothing they could do. I paid and walked out. Very unhappy.

One of these things is not like the other one... :wideeyed:

I am very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience.

A lot of the GDMCC members will be there and we hope to make the experience better.

I do hope people will attend. The more Cyclones the less Hawks!!!:wink:

It is a work in progress.

But the more times we can fill the place with Cyclone Fans the less this will happen.

Go Cyclones!!

I'm sure sorry to hear that about Trophys. DO4ISU and I have really strived to insure Cyclone Fans get a fair treatment at Trophys. I'll speak with the owner and let him know of your past experience. I hope you come on out this Saturday. Ask for Al or Don from the Greater Des Moines chapter of the National Cyclone Club and we'll make sure you and yours will be a great time this weekend.

You guys at the GDCC do a great job and it was great meeting many of you at the Meet the Coaches night.

As I said in another thread, I do like Trophy's a lot - great place to hangout. But if there is an Iowa game on at the same time as an ISU game - it's not a place I'm thrilled on going to. It seemed the bar catered to the Hawk group the night of the ISU-Toledo game a lot more than they did the ISU group.

But that was just our experience. It is very tough to get a near-Cyclone only hangout.

I remember last year going to Trophies for the Kansas vs ISU game. No one was there. I sat alone and cheered in silence! Kind of odd if you think about it, a big rivalry and not really anyone there.

I have gone there for football, some basketball, and even the superbowl a few years back and have had a pleasant experience every time. I wish the best of luck to the GDMCC to gather more troops and make the best game day atmosphere!

I thought People's downtown was going to do some big game watches, but they dont have tvs, maybe AK O'connners downtown will do so big things now. It's just nice to have on central location with the Cyclone Pride can come together.

I though I had heard the same about People's downtown..... that it would be the ISU game watch HQ for Des Moines. Anyone have any info?

Sorry to hear your bad experience at Trophies but I would give it another shot. I've watched a few road games there and MNF a couple times too. Good food and the service is usually pretty good too. One night I came back from a Monday night game at Hilton and me and my buddy stopped in for a couple beers. Well this was the same night the Seahawks and Raiders played and they give out a "fan of the game" apparently to a fan for each team. Well there was not a Seahawk fan in the place so somehow after 10 minutes of being there I got named the fan of the game for the Seahawks since I was decked out in ISU colors and Seneca plays for them! Got a really nice mug and a shirt I gave to a buddy of mine that is a Seahawks fan so pretty good night for just stopping in for a couple of beers!

Not a fan of Trophys for sports. The big screen will give you a sore neck based on it's location, everything else is a relatively small tv. When cold outside, it blows right in to the main area you would want to sit in for a game watch, so dress appropriately. Service for me has always been really, really bad. Usually we would have to trump our waitress and go to the bar directly to try and get our food or drink. The GDMCC should look to an actual bar rather than a bowling alley for a game watch site. 3rd base has plenty of room and tvs, Victors is a decent atmosphere, any of the Legends, Peoples if they could get it on the big screen in the music venue room, etc...

I've been to Trophy's many times and have had good luck with the staff. For example, they went to some trouble to show a Royals game this summer at my request. Obviously, I was the only one there interested in that game.

What I find interesting is that you expected your food and drinks to be comped because the game wasn't shown. Seems a bit over the top.

I'd second 3rd base as a much better place to watch games. Tons of room, and lots of TVs. Food is good, and beer is plentiful.

I probably won't go to either, so take that for what it's worth. Trophy's is distinctly underwhelming in my limited experiences there.

I went to 3rd base for the Big XII tourney day one last season.

Was busy, but nowhere near packed. I kid you not it took over an hour to get a burger basket. I imagine if you're going in for just drinks and the game, it's probably fine. But I wouldn't recommend it if you want food involved.

Pretty open so it gets loud - which I don't like. But it seemed like you'd have a good view of the game from justa about anywhere.
