Good point. If one 16 team conference is going to implode it'll be the PAC. It'd be WAY too many geographical and cultural differences between Pullman, Washington - Los Angeles, Califonia- and Lubbock, Texas.

If Big 12 gets back to 12 I just wonder who would comprise the 16 league conferences, I mean the bylaws of the new Big 12 will make it almost impossible to leave if another conference came calling and the new league will contain some big name teams. The ACC and Big 10 would have to grab some real garbage teams to meet the 16 teams, with teams like Mizzou, KU, Pitt, and so on locked up.
I'm starting to like this idea more and more. We keep our old rivalries and retain our AQ status/ tv contract. It would be great to rebuild the house that we helped build for a 100 years that Texas so carelessly and arrogantly destroyed. Let's do this in spite of them. They will get what they deserve.
As far as the Big 10, I don't think they would expand. They like 12, and if there's no good teams to add, they won't add anybody. Look at how many teams they've added in the past 100 years.
This is one thing I've never seen answered or explained. Why if ou and Tex leave is the big 12 dead? What's stopping the remaining (lets say isu, ku, ksu, mu and Baylor) from going out and getting replacement schools? What are the rules for losing an AQ status?
I'm sure we could lock in a couple big schools then a few smaller schools looking to be in bcs conf.

The Big 12 could technically survive by grabbing a few other schools. it wouldn't be a long term bcs conference without the texas schools and OU.
This is the first time I've really looked at a potentially new conference (Big 12 minus texas, OU), not sure why BYU would want to be a part of it exactly. It'd be a lot more travel for them if this scenario happens than if they were to have been invited before all this Big 12 breakdown stuff happened recently.
I would like to see the TV market #'s compared to current conference setup to see how it'd compare. The lack of a big-time program to sort of cement a conference like this would harm the initial contracts I would imagine.
This sort of conference is one that I could see us flourishing in, but I don't think it'd get a lot of respect from outside the conference at the beginning.

Its all about what FOX and ESPN want. This is a hell of a lot better conference than the Big East and ACC for sure. Not quite to the Big 10 level but with OSU down who knows, and obviously not even close to SEC or PAC 14 (with OU and OSU). Oh and why wouldn't BYU join? $$$$ and AQ conference.
5 schools would have to stay if I remember right and you add in Big East teams, which would likely come because of the contracts in place and BYU, TCU, and Houston, lets go!
I agree its better than the big east for football, not so sure about the ACC. FSU, VT, BC, Clemson are decent football schools.
This scenario would only happen if OU and Texas split. Thus, it's not possible to be "like we are now".
If OSU wouldn't get the votes to enter the PAC, then they stick here with us and you remove Houston from consideration. If all the other teams on that list were to agree to it, I could see that conference being viable (dependent upon TV $$ again).

Just new ground to plow. I fully expect he will throw out the MWC and Big East as possibilities for no other reason than it hasn't been done yet and he's got time to kill.
