*****Spring Game Post Game Thoughts*****

Did anyone see Tom Farnoik's little brother? 6'2" and 210 pounds......7th grader. I could say he has the most upside but until he can prove that he can handle the rigor of college life, intense off-season workouts, and Big 12 football he should not be mentioned as having the "most upside". That goes for Sam Richardson also. We have already seen what boosting a QB can prove by what Steele has shown spring. He has proven to be average, thus far. And the
mistakes he made were not system issues, those were fundamental things that pee wee footballers are taught (like protect the football)!

Sam Richardson may be the second coming of Steele(ISU's savior) but until he can prove he can handle the rigor, don't give me the crap at he has the most upside! Have a wonderful day CF.

You mean an interception with the wind at his back where he released the ball too high and it sailed on him and into the safety's hands? You mean that mistake? Good to know things like that are emphasized in pee wee football...

I believe Jantz' ceiling will max out in 2 years....1 or less if he can't overtake Tiller or prove after fall camp that his snaps are more beneficial that Barnett's. Even if Barnett plays behind Tiller for 2 seasons, he will still have 2 to play, Jantz will be done. Also, in terms of physical development, learning the system, and football knowledge, Barnett has more room and time. As a RSJr, Tiller and Jantz has to be there now. IMO, that's a higher ceiling for Barnett.
Correction...Tiller and Jantz have to be there this fall. It is still only Spring.

Also 4 fumbles on dropped snaps and/or QB mesh with the RB. As of matter of fact, those things are stressed in pee wee football all the way up through middle and high school where I come from. Those are fundamentals of playing football (protect the ball)!

4? 1 fumble, the other 3 where snaps that hit the ground before they got to him. He didn't fumble any of those. I know you want your boy Barnett to get it and maybe he will, but let's refrain from making up stuff about other players

One of my major issues....you don't expect guys going into their 3rd/4th season to be farther along than they are? That is unacceptable! How much improvement are you expecting between now and fall? Those guys should be in the refining stage of preparing for fall camp. Instead, they are in the learning stage. And are you simply expecting JB and JC to regress?

Yes, 4. 2 hit him in the hands, 1 was on the RB mesh, the other one was low but manageable. I never said they were turnovers but 2 of them were. Either way, it's still a fumble. Those still cause execution problems with the play. Also, no need to make up stuff, 4000 people were at the game. I want JB to win it if he wins it. No doubt about that. But, I want the other guys to WIN it also....not have it just given to them.

I have talked enough about the QB stuff. I believe my initial assessment was correct coming out of spring about JT and JB. So, I will let you all continue on through the summer. I will see you after fall camp and we can continue the QB debate....because it's far from over.

James White will be in the mix. Woody is my hero! Tom Farnoik's is a great center! The defense will win games for us! Go Cyclones!

I'm sure that is going to happen............

Truth is Jantz looked below average. Tiller looked improved and the best choice right now to be #1 (not saying he set the world on fire, but obviously the most fluid and comfortable in the system).

Barnett needs a better arm right now or he would be challenging IMO.

That's not the truth. If he looked below average than the rest looked below average to awful. Jantz has the best pocket pressence (by far). And the best arm (by far). Question is can he figure out the offense and get comfortable?

This is exactly it. He didn't play a consistent game but he's also four months into his time at ISU and spent some time with the 2nd team offensive line (which there is a decent dropoff between 1st and 2nd units).

However, Jantz showed a lot of tools other QBs have not had in recent memory. Now he just needs to remember where everyone is on each play.

Jantz isn't in his 3rd-4th season. That is why we are disagreeing on ceiling and potential. You, yourself state that he has very little expereince at QB. He has the least experience at QB than anyone on the team. He has the least experience inthe system than anyone on the team. That is why I claim he has a higher system/knowledge ceiling. FWIW- He has had the least amount of time with a D1 strength and conditioning program. He also has ahd the least amount of time getting his throwing mechanics coached .

On the other end, Barnett has been a QB in Texas, which according to you means he is getting some of the best coaching and he has played against the best. So he has a ton of QB knowledge as well as more time in the system. He has also had a year getting his mechanics worked on as well as a year in strength and conditioning at the D1 level as well as four years in Texa high schools, which, you have told us, is better than anywhere else.

Unlike, you and most, I have no dog in this hunt. I could care less who wins the QB position. Iwant whoever gives us the chance to win the most games next year because ISU has a window of opportunity the next couple of years and has to take advantage

I didn't see anything from Steele that showed me something Tiller was not capable of himself. I'm afraid the Jantz hype machine is going to stall out.

Really don't care who is under center as long as it is the guy that gives us the best chance to W. Right now, based on a single scrimmage, the only guy I would be comfortable with is Tiller.

Of course you do.

Really? I think they both did things better than the other. I thought Tiller had a better grasp on the routes and seemed more comfortable at times. I thought Jantz bought time in the pocket better than anyone we have had in a while. I really like that he stood there and trusted the OL. He gave his WR's time to get open. I also like the zip he had on the ball. Had some mustard on his throws.

I was impressed with Tiller. Was disappointed in how rusty Jantz looked at times but still like his makeup the best of the QB's

I guess I didn't see Jantz showing patience in the pocket like you mention. Seemed to me he was all over the place and didn't quite know what to do. He also seemed to have alot of mental errors.
I saw some potential without a doubt, but the bottom line for me was he was ALOT further from adequate than I wanted to see. Maybe that changes in the next 4 months and maybe it doesn't.

I don't understand why people are acting like Jantz can't build a chemestry with the rest of the team and get a better feel for his reads and playbook by the start of the season. No he's not the perfect QB, but he's the best we have and have had in a while if he can get a better grasp of the offense this summer.

So a guy that can't beat out Tiller who couldn't beat out Arnaud by a long shot is "the best we have and have had in a while ." Consider me a bit confused. What has he done to label him "the best we have had in a while."

I am not sayign he won't be good or he can't win the job but I just don't see how anyone can come to that conclusion at this time based off so little information

Wait, who says he can't beat out Tiller?
