Bill Self. And seriously, how does that even count? Illinois/Big Ten didn't lose a coach to the Big 12, they lost a coach to KANSAS. Believe it or not, there is a big difference between the two. Nobody in their right mind would turn down Kansas, unless they were also being offered by a Duke/UNC/etc.

We're still counting Bill Self? That was EIGHT years ago.

I used to think college basketball was 70% recruiting and 30% coaching. Now I think it's more like 95% who you have and 5% coaching.

Disagree. Look at the recruits that Illinois gets and see how bad they underperform

Illinois hadn't recruited well in a while. They are just now starting to recruit well again. Look at them from 2005 to 2009. Not very impressive and you can see why they were just a middle of the pack Big 10 team. Now they are recruiting better and I expect them to be better. Iowa is really going to have a hard time in the future b/c Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana all appear to be on the upswing. OSU and Mich St aren't going anywhere either.

Yeah, the same guy who, a year after making that tournament, couldn't get his team to any postseason with essentially the same team as the year before (minus Homan) and arguably one of the better guard combos in college basketball at the time.

Also, that year ISU was a 9 seed and lost in the second round to 1 seeded UNC. Illinois did the same thing this year, and yet you say they "underperformed", and that ISU team was much better than this years Illinois team,

I would take Morgan over McDermott every time, but Wayne Morgan definitely underperformed with the talent he had at ISU, most notably in his final year. Even in his second year, that team should have been better than a 9 seed. Some loses at the end of the year that should have not happened...
