Here we go again... KXNO can't talk about

I can honestly say I've never listened to sports talk radio. I will listen to Iowa or ISU games on the radio when I'm in the car, but as for just talk no thanks. I have some mix of 6 of Muse, Pearl Jam, RHCP, Pumpkins, CCR, Soundgarden, etc. in the changer so I prefer to listen to that. I couldn't really care less what some mouth on the radio thinks.

you're very wise...

Here we go again... KXNO can't talk about the iowa/nebraska rivalry without attacking Iowa State and our rivalry. First Kieth Murphy then Giggles and the other guy couldn't help using this announcement to discredit our program. Does anybody know why they feel the need to do this? Maybe they should talk about if a 5 almost 6 loss iowa team will even be able to compete with nebraska?

Because, like clockwork, someone will run to their computer and start a thread about their show and station.

I hate to say it as a Cyclone fan, but Iowa/Nebraska will be bigger than Iowa/ISU and Nebraska/ISU. Throw the Iowa/Nebraska game on ABC or ESPN the day after Thanksgiving is huge for both programs, no doubt. Fans of both programs are already getting pumped up to play every year. Nebraska never thought of us as a rival like we thought of them.
Iowa/Nebraska has the potential to be big and honestly why wouldn't it? Both are usually Top 25 programs who have landed in the Top 10 recently.
I'm ready for the bashing, but realistically it is true.

I agree that this will be big for a few years for the states of Iowa and Nebraska. Similar to Nebraska versus Missouri. Big for the 2 fan bases.

If this were true then someone from cyclone fanatic would have to run to their computer nearly everyday, 3 times a day...

So you're ok with the 24/7 cyclone bashing on a central iowa sports radio?

What they don't understand that Nebraska will care little about Iowa. They won't freaking care. Iowa may think that this is the best thing since sliced bread, but Nebraska won't. They think they are better than Iowa.

In 5 years, this rivalry won't be nearly as big of a deal as they all think it will.

It's annoying, but it does cause me to switch the station fast.
 You said it, I have been saying the same thing since last summer. I have several friends in Lincoln and they could give a rats *** about playing Iowa. They wanna play Ohio State and Penn State, schools with similar tradition as their own. To be honest, my in-laws live in Eastern Iowa and they could really care less about Nebraska. This is such a Central Iowa media desired rivalry. Look at Nebraska in the Big 12 North, everyone wanted to face them and claimed them as a rival, but who did they care about? Texas and Oklahoma, tradition similar to theirs.

I agree that Iowa/Nebraska will probably end up being a bigger rivalry (although I'm not certain about that), but that doesn't mean that ISU/Iowa automatically becomes worthless like Giggles was alluding to. Its not a teeter-toter. Both games can be meaningful. As long as Iowa and ISU play, it will always be a big deal in this state. No matter what.

I understand why KXNO talks about it because local people are interested but both Iowa and Nebraska fans are kidding themselves if they think they are going to be the next Michigan v Ohio St, Duke v NC or even KU v MU. Those rivaries took years to develop. Plus they are in more populated areas. If they are lucky it will be a step above North Dakota V North Dakota State, by that I mean it will be huge locally and no one else will really care. If they are both contending for conference titles year after year for 4-5 years straight people other than Iowan's and Nebraskan's will start to notice.

It will be bigger than ISU/Nebraska, but not bigger than ISU/Iowa. At least not in this state. Really, they don't even overlap. If ISU/Iowa ends, then yeah, it will be bigger.

Nebraska won't care that much about Iowa unless beats them right out the gate. If Nebraska wins a couple in a row, it will be an afterthought for thme. Iowa fans are FAR more pumped for this game than Nebraska. Iowa fans hate having ISU for a rival and are almost manufacturing excitement for this game.

I predict Iowa/Nebraska will be the Big 10 equivalent of Colorado/Nebraska. One school makes it a giant deal in order to not play up their in-state rivalry, but at the end of the day, it's pretty one sided.

Iowa/Nebraska will be bigger than Neb/Colorado. Maybe Colorado circa 1990, but not colorado the past 10 years. Personally, I dislike Nebraska more than Iowa and would truly love the Hawks to go to Lincoln and give the Huskers a pounding in November.
I do agree that Iowa/ISU will still be big.

Don't buy into the hype. It's not going to be that big. 5 years and it'll be the same as ISU/NE. The fans didn't get worked up until the media told them to care.

And nationally no one is going to give a rats ***. Iowa is not a national team. People will watch them, but no one outside of stupid Hawk fans plans a Saturday (or in this case Friday) around an Iowa game.

The only reason Iowa fans are looking forward to Nebraska is because they think this will give their program national relevancy. It won't. Nebraska will beat them consistently and not give much of a thought about it. Iowa may win once every 8-10 times they play. The Iowa fans will then want to drop the rivalry with Nebraska because they have nothing to gain by it and everything to loose. Unfortunately they won't be able to drop the game because their in the same conference now.

I have a hard time seeing Nebraska truly caring about Iowa, much like they didn't truly care about CU. Like in the Big 12, they will care more for the "traditional" powers such as OSU, PSU, Michigan. Keep in mind that CU/NU got the Friday after Thanksgiving, and a good national audience. Also, both Iowa and CU have relatively classless fanbases. I could definitely see Iowa fans attacking Nebraska fans in the same manner that CU fans attacked Nebraska. I just think Nebraska will be Iowa's biggest conference game, and Iowa won't be Nebraska's.

Like I said, definitely bigger than ISU/Nebraska, but not turning into this national rivalry that Iowa fans envision.

I disagree but only because I think both schools best years are behind them. Iowa's legal problems will catch up with them finally and Barney Cotten will catch up with Nebraska.

Since the Undefeated, National Championship iowa hawkeyes probably won't work to sell the tickets and merchandise this year. KXNO, Des Register, etc. will do everything they can to pump up the iowa base and this new rivalry will be its vehicle IMO.

The central iowa posse will say anything to make sure iowa gets more than their share of the central iowa pie.

Rewind to sometime this weekend somewhere in Central Iowa between Ken Miller and Giggles.

Ken: Giggles, I know you're short for this market and heading out soon. I will bet you money that you can't alienate the Cyclones one more time before your gone. You know how sensitive they are because anytime you talk bad about them they go and cry about it on CF. It would be comical to go out with a bang.

Giggles: I was going to just leave without making a fuss, but I might not be around a fanbase who is so easily offended and so easy to play as some of CF has become. I'm game......

Ken: OK then, it's Monday or nothing. I'll call Murph up and see if he can set us up on his show and then the puppet show should be a hit.

Giggles: Giggle...giggle.....giggle....giggle....this going to be fun.

Job done and Ken Miller lost his bet.

Some of you are way to sensitive.

In college football. Nebraska > Iowa > ISU. It's just the way it is for now.
