Going through the schedule, I would not be surprised if ISU makes the NIT this year
The best backcourt since Will and Curtis and an open, drive and kick offense will allow ISU to capitalize on an easy non-conference.

The young guys will take some beatings this year in the Big 12, but come next year, will be ready to hold their own, while the redshirts come off to lead the team to the top. Elite Eight is a legit possibility in 2011-12.

No, I have not been drinking or suffering from any other form of substance abuse. Fred and Co are just that good.

Best backcourt since Will and Curtis, worst front court in 20 years.

I still think it will be a big time struggle this season and I have no real issue with that. Plus, we have a rookie head coach. There's always a learning curve there.

I'm more than happy to be patient this year for what could be coming in 2011-2012.

I like the optimism, but you might be setting yourself up for a huge disappointment.
I would be extremely surprised if we made the NIT this year. I'm hoping just to be .500.
As far as next year goes, I'm going to wait and see if we can keep everybody around and everybody stays eligible.

Since NIT dropped from 40 to 32 teams and started giving auto bids to regular season conference champions that weren't selected for the NCAA, an NIT bid is harder to secure than it once was.

I could see 18-13 as a ceiling for this team — 10 years ago that was probably a good comfort zone for NIT, but now it may not be.

If ISU does get somewhere near that, might as well hope to sneak into the real thing (with its additional 3 slots! Woo-woo expansion! Don't get me started on that).

Did I read Elite 8 next year? Really? Come on man, don't be that guy. Especially because "that guy" is usually "the guy" who is the first to jump on the hate-wagon if things don't go right.

You haven't seen 75% of these players play, haven't seen the coach coach, and you're already predicting quarter finals in the national tournament?

Completely agree with this.

It's really tough to even begin to predict the 2011-12 season without knowing who all is going to be here and knowing how good some of these newcomers actually are. Without a doubt there's reason to be excited and very much so, but predicting an Elite 8 appearance is a bit much - we need to get to at least 8th in the conference before anything else.

Until you are FullIdentity, your opinion means little. Don't be the guy telling me what kind of fan I am. How could anyone hate on ISU? Makes no sense.

I have seen many of the players, and Lutz and Rutter coach.

Better get on-board before this thing takes off without you.

It is a possibility. There is no way to dispute that.
Now maybe if someone said it was a guarantee, your rant would be worth the read.
Wait and see if you must, but MacDud is no longer here, it is safe to come out now.

NIT = 0% without Royce and under 10% with him.

Elite 8 next year? No way.

I think everyone would be wise to think that we are going to be bad----2009-2010 Iowa bad. Just get that in your head.

It is going to be annoying when we lose to a team that is better than us (I think Creighton and UNI are both better teams) and you all lose your ****.

I think that brighter days are ahead, but let's not saddle Hoiberg with unrealistic expectations just because we've been bad for 4 years. The last 4 years weren't his fault.

With all due respect, that is one of the silliest things I have ever seen written on CycloneFanatic.com, which is saying quite a bit.

How does having realistic expectations for our basketball team, with three returning players and a brand new coaching staff equate to hating on ISU?

Your post reminds me of some of the people who were on here after CFH was hired writing that anyone who had any doubts about how great of a hire it was and how great of a head coach Hoiberg would be weren't true Cyclone fans. Just plain silliness.

Until you know "who you are", your opinion just looks silly. I'm not hating on ISU, I'm being realistic. And an NIT this year, Elite 8 next year is not anywhere close to realistic.

The possibility of ISU making the Elite 8 next year is about as good as winning the lottery. Yes, it's possible, but very unlikely. And it's just as dumb to have Elite 8 expectations as it is to expect to win the lottery.

Yup. There are going to be a lot of melt downs on here during bball season because there are some people like the OP whose expectations are just too high. I predict these meltdowns will quickly deteriorate into why Hilton sucks now, why Cyclone Alley sucks, how great it was when Larry was here, how much Greg McD sucks, how much the fans suck and why isn't jamie pollard fixing it and what is wrong with Fred Hoiberg's coaching.

A year ago, the overwhelming consensus around here was that we could make the NCAAs, the NIT was a worse-case scenario. Then we ended up winning four conference games, and the wheels fell off the wagon. Don't get your hopes up.

that's crazy, if we make a regional final we'll win it.

I don't think your assumption is wise at all. Why go in that defeated already?

Our guard play with Diante, Jake, and Scott alone should make us better than 2009-2010 Iowa. That was a team that struggled in every way possible.

I still think .500 is the goal this year, and makes a successful year.

Did Fred say on media day that Jake has been the leader on the team and will run the point a lot with Diante at the off guard? I wonder what our starting line up will look like.
