Which side of the island? Negril or Ocho?
What are you looking for? Fun stuff to do? Incredible beach? All inclusive or roll your own?
Going with your wife? Kids along?
Looking for an all inclusive, either side of the island. There will be a group of 6 adults looking to relax and do a few attractions.
There are more attractions on the ocho side, but there is also two negatives to that side.
1. Cruise ships land there.
2. The beach is not nearly as nice.
The Negril side has less attractions, but the beach is incredible, one of the best in the world.

That is where we are returning to this winter. Best all inclusive on the island (much better than sandals).
How much did that trip set you back? We looked at that one once, but it seemed really pricey.
I have been to both Sandals Negril and Sandals Montego Bay and both were great but I prefer Negril.
We were quoted anywhere from 2k to 2500, 5 nights including taxes for 4 different places in Jamaica in late fall/early winter. Not sure if we want go there, Bahamas or somewhere in Mexico where it will be at least $500 cheaper. Ive been to the Riviera Maya twice before, so it would be nice to go somewhere new.

It looked very nice driving by. We know one of the waiters there, and he'd be pretty solid.
If that is flights and all inclusive for 2, you should swoop it up!
We just dropped $3500 for 2 people all inclusive from DSM for a week in Negril. Totally worth every penny.
I liked Jamaica, but I have found so many different islands that Jamaica to me at this point is a distant memory drowned by the over-touristy all-inclusive junkholes littering the landscape.

The wife and I are going to Grande Ocho Rios in a month for $3500, flight out of DM... Seemed reasonable!! Any insight on this sandals resort? Thanks!
Nice place, HUGE resort, but not a whole lot of natural beach. They have a big dock that you can lay out on.

Couples is the only name I'll even consider for JAmaica. We did Negril last New Years and it was the best vacation I've ever had. Amazing staff, great food, great drinks, no tips required, beautiful beach, free excursions......simply epic.

I'd go as far as saying, screw the all inclusives and go there. But it's cheaper, still on 7mi beach, and close to tourist shops, local restaurants, and a grocery store if you wanted to cook yourself. As for the beach, they can make sure you snorkel or para sail too.
Not that I'm biased at all:wideeyed:

If you pick Negril, make sure to get out and try Sweet Spice. It's authentic Jamaican food that the locals go to for dinner. It's $4 (2 years ago) for a really good-sized meal and soft drink.
People look at you funny when you walk in, like you're not from around there, but the food is fantastic!
