Kurt Backes to the dark side

If we didn't offer backes, we have to expect him to be a true Cyclone and give his best to his employer. Good luck Kurt and I sincerely hope to see you that you get an opportunity to re-dedicate your skills to the Cyclones.

Good god, that makes me want to throw up...

Here is the entire quote:

"Don't get me wrong; I've thought about it," Backes said of being on the other side of the Iowa-Iowa State rivalry. "I have total gratitude to Iowa State for giving me a free education and for Bobby Douglas bringing me out there and teaching me a wealth of knowledge of technique and wrestling, but right now I'm a Hawkeye. I'm 120-, 130-percent dedicated to Iowa, Iowa wrestling, the athletic department, the coaching staff and the 30 or 40 guys on the team to winning another title."

Dangit. I was hoping he would only be 113% dedicated to Iowa...

i wonder how bobby douglas could EER teach anyone wrestling skills.he had to be the worst wrestling coach in iowa state history.i think coach jackson will be 100x the coach that douglas ever was.GO CYCLONES!!!!!!!!

Am I missing something? Was Backes offered a position at Iowa State and turned it down for Iowa, or did he take an opportunity because one didn't exist at ISU?

Last I checked KJ can handle the upper weights pretty well, I didn't think we needed another upper weight coach on our staff.

i have heard he wasn't offered a job from ISU

My good friend sat next to his parents at Jason Knipp's this last weekend. They talked to them for a while about how Kurt wanted to get into coaching and that Jackson had turned him down after Kurt reached out multiple times to him. Finally, Kurt got a call from Iowa and wants to coach, so he took it. Obviously, if he wants to coach and his alma mater can't give him a job, and the #1 wrestling program in the country gets him a job, I think he has to take it. It just sucks we kept turning him down.

Gotta go where the job is being offered to get some experience. Can't say I blame him. I am sure he would have taken a similar job at ISU if we offered it to him.
