Official NFL network sucks thread

one of the nfl network commentators was interviewed yesterday and said that is what happened.
So the NFL network is saying they offered the rights to mediacom to show the game STATE WIDE for free but denied WOI's request to show the game outside the dsm area?
Does that sound right to you?
That would be almost a no go if you live in SE Iowa as it would be too far away to pick up the signal
i am not sure about the 'state-wide' part of your statement. i did not hear anything on that. i would assume perhaps that they wanted mediacom to only air it in the dm market, but i could be wrong. from what nfl network was saying, they wanted people to see the game on the nfl network, free publicity for a game, but mediacom denied it. woi picked it up. i would assume that the nfl network has to incur some costs with airing the game, so they only wanted to do it in a market that was guaranteed for them to be successful.
I would argue it's a great product. Yes they have a few games every year, but their coverage of the sidelines and locker rooms makes for great shows during the week.
The NFL is a 12 month sport now, and this channel has a ton of viewers as far as cable channels go.
I think this thread should have been called "I live in a part of the country that has crappy cable service".
Heck, I don't even live in Iowa and I knew that it was only going to be available in central Iowa.
I'll enjoy watching this game from home, on a channel I don't think sucks.

I have a very hard time believing that NFL Network offered to let Mediacom carry their channel "no strings attached". If they won't let other stations carry the broadcast (KCRG in Cedar Rapids, for instance), I don't see them giving it away to Mediacom.
I have no desire to pay for Mediacom carrying the station. This is the first time I've had any desire to watch anything on the station, and I don't see that changing in the future. Some cable carriers may be okay with it, but I can't agree with forcing these stations on the basic package. Same way I felt with the Big Ten Network, and same way I'd feel if a Big 12 Network existed.jdoggivjc said:

I love the NFL network. It's great for a football fan. You need to discuss this with your crappy cable service, or get yourself a satellite.
On WOI news last night, the NFL network offered Mediacom a free preview of the network so the game would be available. Mediacom didn't even respond to the NFL network's offer, so the network contacted WOI to broadcast the game.
I didn't see the story so I don't know the situation, but it makes no sense that Mediacom would flat out ignore an offer to carry a station for free. My guess would be that there were some heavy stipulations involved.
Again, I don't know the full situation, but neither does anyone but NFL Network and Mediacom.
Good grief! Do I have to repost what the story said? NFL network offered a FREE PREVIEW. Unless one of their representatives was flat out lying on TV, it's not that hard to figure out. Plain and simple, Mediacom hates you.
Good grief! Do I have to repeat that I didn't see the story and don't have any information other than common sense? All I'm trying to say is that the NFL Network is in negotiations with Mediacom to carry their station full time, so I take something like this with a big grain of salt. Especially given the negative publicity that Mediacom has garnered because of this.
But since someone said it on TV, it must be true!
