Why don't you try arguing that it is news instead of snappy one liners. Prove to us that it is news and why you deserve to know. I'm starting to agree with the entitlement thing Taz posted earlier. But not necessarily the tone in which he posted.

News is anything people take an interest in and want to learn more about. What's news to some people isn't news to others.
I'm not saying this is a news item, but GC is not a public figure where Dendy is. I really think this is not a news item and just gossip. It's a personal affair that is between Dendy and his family. He returned to the team so where is the news? Why do we need to know why he left to begin with?
We don't NEED to know, but people WANT to know. It's the way it is. It's been like that since as long as I can remember.
The news really didn't begin because he came back to the team, it started when he left. At that point nobody knew if he was returning, and judging by ISU's past, people wanted to know what was up and with good reason. Is he coming back? Why did he leave? Is there a problem? All legitimate questions for fans to ask. Even if he just put a little bit of information out on his own, he still put something out there for people to grasp at and that's how it starts.
Just because it's his personal business, doesn't make it less newsworthy. Probably makes it even more so. He’s a young man in the public eye. Get used to it. You are the news now. Act accordingly.
That's all when he left. I agree when he was gone it was newsworthy...and all your questions are relevant. But now that he is back, the reason why isn't. The news part of it has been answered. He had to deal with personal issues and now he is back with the team. Everything else is just Gossip about his personal life. Just because we want to know doesn't make it news. So is the National Enquirer/Star and other tabloids producing news or just gossip?
Not news? Just gossip? The publisher of this site as well as many other media outlets felt that it was newsworthy enough to discuss. Do we need to know every menial detail of every public figure's life? No. But don't be so naive that you can honestly sit there and say that when the rumor mill starts flying, things don't become newsworthy events.
It's easy to sit here now and second guess people for starting these rumors about Dendy, knowing what we know now. But we all know that where there's smoke, there's usually fire.
If a kid is having personal issues, fine, we don't need to know about them, but if he's missing practices and potentially missing games, I'd say that's pretty newsworthy.
...But please tell me more about how that's an invasion of privacy.
It's news because if this "personal issue" is one that could pop back up again during the conference season people are going to want to know. It's most definitely news.
Say what you want about tabloid journalism as well, but sites like TMZ break a lot of news.
Where did I ever say that it was invasion of privacy...and if you read past posts you would see that I do agree it was a newsworthy event when he was gone. But now that he is back, it's not.
They spoke about it and said it was for personal reasons and that it is between him and his family. It's done. There is no newsworthy event anymore. He's back with the team and to still talk about it is gossip.
IF that ever happens, it would definitely be news. You made some jabs at others about a lot of "ifs" please don't play the if game like they were.
So when TMZ reports about the latest Brangelina break up, is that news? They make money on gossip, but that doesn't mean they don't ever break any news.

Prior to messages boards, when a person left for a couple of days for personal reasons, the only people that knew were the people that needed to know. Coaches, teammates, roommates, friends, teachers. It was not news unless the player missed a game. It still isn't news until they miss a game.
You do know that airplanes were invented long before scholarships were given out for basketball, don't you? Airplanes were invented long before the internet. Without planes, a guy living on the East coast probably doesn't end op at ISU.
You do know things that are now consdered "news" were never reported prior to the internet/camera phones/etc because people never knew. They didn't need to know. And it didn't affect the product ont he court.
How about that. not one "if" except the one in this sentence.

There's a difference between just throwing "ifs" out there and then logical "ifs". The things that have happened leading up to this make that question of "if the personal issue pops up again" very relevant.
When it comes to celebrities and sports, gossip is news. If you don't believe that you're very naive. Damn near every big story starts as gossip.
People should never throw wild, unsubstantiated rumors out there, especially in circumstances where an individual has asked for privacy, but you also have to realize, regardless of whether this is a personal issue or not, it is a newsworthy event. Nobody knew last week if Dendy was going to be back, or how much time he would miss, or to what extent his personal issues were affecting or possibly jeopardizing his career as a Cyclone.
Actually walking a fine line here. I don't think that it is an invasion of privacy to ask. If someone was saying it was an invasion of privacy and we have no right asking in the first place then I'd be 100% on your side.
It may be subtle, but I'm going to split hairs here. What I don't get is the indignation when the coach says "personal."
We all love our clones, and I, as much as the next guy, want to know as much as I can about the team, but I can respect that the coach said personal, and that he is dealing with the issue and doesn't feel that it should go into the media. Would I like to know, yes.
But if my friend says I'm not ready to talk about, my divorce, then I respect that and can have his best interest at heart. I wait until he is ready to talk about it.
I just don't feel the need to make things worse when one of our guys is hurting. But I love the school and team and didn't just pay to control their lives and their privacy. Asking once is genuine care and interest. Insisting that we are owed an explanation, is just rude and can be damaging. I don't care how you try and justify it with the decay of the media and society.
