Alfraud leaveing Iowa will have two negative consequenses for the Clones

1. We will not get to play agianst Alfraud coached teams every year.

2. Iowa just might bring in someone who can actually coach.

One positive-- I will still take GMAC!!!!

yeah right now I'm glad JP didn't give Wayne another year to turn his ship around, because we could have been looking at McD to Iowa...that would have been really bad

And maybe that was in Jamie's thinking, too. He had to know that Alfraud didn't have very long left, although Eddie was taking EIU to the tourney as a 4 seed when that all went down.

I think they were a 3 seed, when NW State beat them.

even though this is about the 18th thread like this, i feel the urge to reply so...

even though Stevo is gone, I think Barta is gonna have a hard time finding a good coach (Altman is decent) but Lowry would be a better choice even though I don't think they could get him.
Barta is no Pollard, so I'm sure we will not be impressed with his hiring.

It will be interesting to watch the hiring process by Barta. This will be his first high-profile hire, and I'm sure the hawk fans have seen what has happened in Ames and will be comparing/contrasting his style to Jamie's.

While not a single Suckeye would admit it, they wish they had Jamie at a time like this....

It's a different job. I agree JP is the perfect AD for Iowa State, and I am thrilled with the bringing of expectations, finally.

But Iowa has most of what JP is trying to build already in place. He will not have to completely redo all of the facilities, he has money in the coffers to hire a guy, etc.

The problem that Barta will run into is that coaches talk to one another. And Alford will be another coach that Iowa ran out. It started with Lute Olson, and I have heard that he has been none to complementary to Iowa. George Raveling has taken his shots at the Hawk fans, and the way Tom Davis was shown the door brought bad pub for the program as well.

I think that they may very well get Lowrey, but he will not be there very long. If he wins, then he gets a better job. If he loses, then he will go through what we have seen the past 3-4 years with Alford.

Who would have thought that a Big 10 school would become a stepping stone job.

Alford leaving the program is the best thing to happen to Hawkeye Bball since George Raveling took his Grranimal warm-ups and left for USC.

I agree, but Barta doesn't strike me as an excitement guy. A guy that will go out there and move mountains, exceed expectations. That is Jamie, and that is more what I was refferring to EIU wanting. They want to be blown away by the hire. They want to get a new place to play basketball and fill it up. The question is, can a guy like Barta deliver, even with all the cash he has to blow?

Seriously, if I have to read "Alfraud" one more time, I think my head might explode. Can't we discuss this without always having to use some clever nickname? Once in a while is fine, but this is way overkill.

What is Alfrauds record against us? I'd say its close to .500, maybe even higher? The only thing that stinks about him leaving to us is that Iowa could become a better program.

It's not like his Iowa teams were 1-10 against the Cyclones and we were owning them.
Steve is 5-4 against us, with 1 win coming in the NIT.

We are all just clever like Jim Rome. He never calls any locations by their real name.

Do you really think we are that inferior that Iowa could have their way in deciding coaches and leave us with the leftovers? Give us a little more respect than that.

Man, I can't believe how everyone here is talking just like a Hawkeye fan. As much as we hate to admit it, we would love to have the support and dollars that Iowa has. They can be jerks, but so can Cyclone fans. I support both schools with ISU being my main concern. No matter how big of joke we think Alford was he was successful against ISU. I am very happy with our new hires from the past 2 years and I think we will continue to make improvements in our programs. But I don't ever see us having the financial support Iowa has. I admit that alot of Hawkeye fans have never gone to Iowa. But that is good for them and bad for us. We need to develop the fan base outside of ISU graduates in order to compete financially. Barta has his first big challenge and it will be interesting to see how he does. But don't sell them short. They have an unlimited amount of money compared to ISU.
