I was just in Hospers for work last month and missed the restaurant; ended up with pizza from Casey's for lunch! I did notice the Korean War memorial but probably wouldn't recommend it as a tourist attraction! Nearby Orange City is interesting...

I for some reason think that I've been close to that town on a bachelor party. I think we crossed over to the Illinois side too. For some reason all I can remember is a lotta beers and this hamburger vendor guy with a small hut that looks like the dog house in campustown making these burgers literally in grease. Can anyone help me out?
Webster City is a gem. Check out the Rainbow Lounge and ask for a Rocket Fuel...After a couple hours. WC will look like its painted in gold.
I'm a big fan of the NE Iowa River towns. All have beautiful scenery and are unique in their own way....my favorites are:

McGregor
Marquette
Harpers Ferry
Lansing
New Albin

Fayette - Volga State Park and UIU
Decorah - Upper Iowa River and Luther College
New Vienna - Beautiful Church
Gunder - Gunder Burger...delicious
Postville- Sabor Latino Mexican Restaurant...if you want real mexican food, you can beat it in the midwest.

there might be ... LuVerne has a surpising amount of houses on the south east corner.
and they probably counted the population on a Sat night when the people at Quarters counted.
Fairfield was the site of the first Iowa State Fair.... and that's about it. :wink: Not a whole lot to see on the Maharishi campus, except for the large golden domes. That's about it though.
Mt. Pleasant during The Old Threshers Reunion is fun though. Gets a little old if you've been there every year of your life, but it's definitely a good time.

+1 on the Gunder Burger and St. Olaf tenderloin.
I would recommend (especially if you are Catholic) to check out the steeples of Dubuque County. Luxemburg, Dyersville (Basillica), New Vienna, Worthington all have impressive old Catholic Churches. Petersburg in Delaware County is also neat.
I'll also put in a word for the Guttenburg fireworks on the 3rd of July shot off over the Mississippi. Also the annual Edgewood Days Rodeo. Last weekend in June always a great time. You can find the best fried chicken in the world at one of the food stands. Oh yeah and a lot of beer!

If I could have lived and grown up in any smaller town, I would choose Atlantic, always looked like a real nice town with a lot of ammendities for its size. I would have loved growing up in Ames, but its not that small of a town.
