B12 baseball tourney underway

Couple of thoughts here:
1) We had a pretty decent program, last I remember.
2) It's the Big 12 tournament. I've got to think that we make that one.

To borrow a term from Roger clemens, you are "mis-remembering." And it's not a given to make the tourney like in basketball. I am not against ISU having baseball or down on the former program. In fact, just the opposite. I am however a realist. And yes, I was one of the 10 or so people that actually attended games when I was in school. The simple fact is this. College is to prepare people for their professional life. The fact that they took away a sport that offered athletes a chance to prepare for a profession and keep around some nonesense is amazing to me. Not to mention baseball is America's past-time. However, my initial post has merit.

Wha....

Heading out to cheer on the Tigers and Sooners in Session 2 today. It should be a nice day to sit in the bleachers and watch some baseball.

On a side note, OSU is rumored to be filing a complaint with the NCAA regarding the fact that they were not able to play the final game against Baylor...They're hoping to be given special consideration in the selection of regional teams...

OSU was always my least favorite team to play and this is an example of why.

Why? You think they'd qualify? Ever? It does suck to not have baseball, but to think ISU would be there is foolish.

ISU qualified 6th in the final year, and had one of the best recruiting classes in the country coming in, not to mention a solid returning cast... In contrast, K-State was BY FAR the worst program in the conference, for years... Now they are a top 10 team...

Hey cybsball20. I don't spend a lot of time here, but I've paid enough attention to gather that you're a former ISU baseball player. I have some questions for you.

I was sophomore at Iowa State when baseball was eliminated. I still remember reading the Daily article before Chemistry lecture when the disappointing news came out. I'm a huge baseball fan, and will be a season ticket holder the day the sport is reinstated.

My question: Is there not an ISU baseball alum with the financial capacity and desire to invest some money to get this program back at ISU? I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember Pollard saying that it would require approximately $1 million to get this program off the ground. That's certainly no small number, but larger gifts have been given to ISU athletics in the past.

We know it's not a Title IX issue, which many fans have assumed is the case. Pollard has actually stated that, given the ratio of men to women in the student body, ISU could add more than just baseball without violating the requirements of Title IX. It's simply a financial issue.

I understand that there are other priorities within the department, but I'm somewhat surprised that a donor hasn't stepped forward to specifically fund a sport that is an American institution. As a former player, have you ever heard this discussed as a possibility?
