Iowa State could be in on another transfer.

Not in basketball though.

Accoridng to the Twitter feed of Josh Newberg from 247 Sports, former South Florida wide receiver D’Vario Montgomery is currently on Iowa State’s campus. The tweet reads:

Josh Newberg @joshnewberg247

I’m told former #USF WR D’Vario Montgomery is at #IowaState today and if all goes as expected, he will enroll at ISU for class next Monday.

Analysis

First and foremost, Montgomery is the former high school teammate of Iowa State quarterback Sam Richardson. The duo hails from Winter Park, Fla. and Iowa State heavily recruited Montgomery out of high school, along with Richardson, of course.

Out of high school, Rivals.com ranked Montgomery as a 4-star prospect and the 21st best receiver in the class of 2012. Click on that link above, take a look at his offer list and you’ll know the caliber of player that Montgomery is believed to be.

Montgomery fought injuries throughout much of his freshman year, compiling only six catches for 65 yards along the way. Montgomery announced that he was leaving South Florida five days ago

Why transfer? Well, keep in mind that Montgomery committed to South Florida under then-head coach Skip Holtz. Montgomery reportedly began considering a transfer after Holtz bolted for Louisiana Tech in December. Willie Taggart is now the head coach at South Florida.

Over his final two seasons in high school, the 6-foot-5, 200-pound sophomore caught 96 passes for 1,662 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Should he attend Iowa State, Montgomery would have to sit out the 2013 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
