Iowa State fans have heard the praises that coach Matt Campbell has said about Caleb Bacon throughout the season, and now his younger brother will be joining him in Ames.

Lake Mills High School’s Logan Bacon has committed to Iowa State as a preferred walk-on.

“It means a lot for sure,” Bacon said. “I mean, just being around Matt Campbell and learning more about him – he’s someone you want to go play for. And you can tell from what he said and just being around him that he values all of his players on the whole roster. He’s not just gonna pick favorites. He values the whole team.”

Campbell had just spoke at his weekly press conference days prior about the importance of his roster makeup. He identified that, to have success, a coach needs to care about players 128-130 on his team as much as the top three athletes.

That approach plays a big role in why Logan chose Iowa State and looks to play his way onto the field the same way Caleb did.

“We’ve talked a little bit here and there and he’s kind of told me what to expect, what I have to do and kind of showed me the ropes I would get going in there,” Bacon said. “I’m gonna have to work my butt off and I’m ready for it. I’m ready to get to work. There’s a lot of good guys I mean, everyone that goes there is just top talent so I’d love to work my butt off and try to get on the field.”

Bacon added that his biggest goal was doing whatever he could to help the team.

Iowa State sees him lining up at safety, running back or wide receiver, but that’s a decision to be made down the road.

“Just to have that trust of ‘we can put you here or here,’ I mean, that really says a lot about them as just a coaching staff and them putting that trust in me,” Bacon said. “And if I have any questions or anything, I can go ask my brother who’s, I mean, he’s, you know, he’s been through all this stuff, and he gives an idea of what I could do to make myself better and improve myself and get on the field.”

As for any participation in the ‘Purchase-Moore-Hamann-Bacon’ NIL campaign, he said he’s open to participating.

“Oh, that was absolutely crazy,” Bacon said. “I mean, I didn’t expect it to take off like it did. It was just in a couple hours. It was all over the world. So I mean, it was pretty surreal, but I’m just glad to see it happen. I mean, I wouldn’t turn it down for sure, but I won’t be like overt about it.”
