Iowa State is getting another captain back for its football team in 2022.

O’Rien Vance announced Thursday via Instagram that he would return for one more season, utilizing the extra year allowed by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cedar Rapids native has played four seasons for the Cyclones to date, appearing in 45 games during his career in Ames.

Vance is also coming off his best game of the 2021 season, totaling nine tackles in Iowa State’s Cheez-It Bowl loss to Clemson.

Over his time at Iowa State, Vance has accumulated 10 sacks, 194 tackles and four fumble recoveries.

Iowa State will open its 2022 season on September 3 against Southeast Missouri at Jack Trice Stadium.
