Iowa State men’s basketball is back in the top-10.
The Cyclones checked in at No. 9 in this week’s Associated Press Top-25, jumping up two spots from No. 11 last week. This is Iowa State’s first appearance in the AP Top-10 since Dec. 2015.
T.J. Otzelberger’s squad moved to 11-0 with a 77-54 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday. It is the second 11-0 start in program history, joining the 2013-14 team, which started the season 14-0.
This is Iowa State’s 39th appearance in the AP Top-10 in program history. The 2014-15 team spent the first six weeks of that season inside the top-10, rising to as high as No. 4 in the ranking.
The 2013-14 team that started 14-0 didn’t rise into the top-10 until early Jan. 2014.
Iowa State is currently scheduled to play Chicago State on Tuesday, but that game could be in jeopardy depending on the status of COVID-19 cases inside the CSU program.
The Cyclones will open conference play on Jan. 1 when they host the defending national champion Baylor Bears at Hilton Coliseum.
Baylor checked in at No. 1 in this week’s poll while Kansas (No. 7), Texas (No. 16) and Texas Tech (No. 25) are the other Big 12 squads in the ranking. Oklahoma and West Virginia are the top-two teams in the receiving votes category.
