Iowa State is expected to hire North Texas assistant and linebackers coach Colby Kratch to fill the same position at Iowa State, according to a report from the Athletic’s Max Olson.
Iowa State is hiring North Texas assistant Colby Kratch as its new linebackers coach, sources tell @TheAthletic.
Kratch coached LBs for North Texas and is returning to Ames after working on the Cyclones’ staff from 2017-2022.

Kratch will be filling the role of former Cyclone assistant coach Tyson Veidt as the team’s LB coach after Veidt left Ames to take the defensive coordinator position at Cincinnati.
It will be Kratch’s second stint in Ames as part of the football staff under head coach Matt Campbell. Kratch spent six seasons at Iowa State and during that time. He served as graduate assistant on defense in 2017 and then spent the next five seasons as the program’s assistant director of player personnel.
In Kratch’s six seasons at Iowa State, he helped the Cyclones reach five
consecutive bowl games. The last four recruiting classes that Kratch helped recruit were all rated inside the top 50 according to 247Sports. That includes the 2022 group, which was considered to be the best recruiting class in school history and top 25 nationally.
Before coaching at Iowa State and North Texas, Kratch spent two years as a
graduate assistant at Michigan State working with the offensive line.
Kratch was also a two-time letterwinner at Toledo (2011-2012). Following his graduation from Toldeo, Kratch served as an offensive assistant for the Rockets in 2013 and 2014 for Matt Campbell’s staff.
