Danny Inglis committed to Iowa State way back in March of 2023. It’s not the earliest a prospect has announced his decision, but Inglis was the first of the class to commit and intends to enroll early to take part in winter workouts.
The 6-foot-1 commit and signee is excited to get to Ames after he enjoys the holidays with his family in Canfield, Ohio.
“It’s a great feeling to have all that stuff off of your chest now and you’re really just focused,” Inglis said. “(You get to) enjoy the holidays with your family and then get up there with the team and just get straight to the off-season workouts.”
Inglis chose Iowa State over offers from Ball State, Central Michigan and Youngstown State.
He committed to playing in Ames, and is set to enroll early, because of the relationships coach Matt Campbell, defensive coordinator Jon Heacock, and linebackers coach Tyson Veidt formed with him.
“I just felt my recruiting slowing down after the end of my junior year,” Inglis said. “I was in contact with Iowa State a lot more frequently than all the other schools and after I took (my) two visits, I just felt like it was the right place for me. I think it was the right scheme and coach Campbell, coach Veidt and coach Heacock were very inviting. I’ve just felt comfortable there.”
Inglis projects at one of the outside linebacker positions or at the middle safety spot, where Beau Freyler plays now.
He found some inspiration watching Freyler make plays on the field, despite being undersized.
“I think Beau’s a really tough player,” Inglis said. “I really admire to play like him one day. He just goes in there and he’s not always the biggest guy on the field, but he just flies around people.”
