Wisconsin safety standout Carson Van Dinter was named as his high school conference’s defensive back of the year in 2023.

After he makes it official by signing his national letter of intent Wednesday, December 20, he’ll be working towards earning major honors while developing behind senior to-be Beau Freyler.

“It’s crazy,” Van Dinter said. “I was kind of shocked (Freyler) only got (Big 12) honorable mention to be honest. He’s definitely special. Coach Campbell told me that he’s the biggest leader on the team, and he obviously backs it up with his performance. It’s exciting to watch and to hope that some day, I’ll hopefully be where he is.”

Iowa State sees the 6-foot-3, 195-pound prospect fitting in at the star/middle safety position.

Van Dinter is rated as the No. 13 prospect out of Wisconsin in the 2024 recruiting class by the 247 Sports’ composite rating.

“I think it will be really cool,” Van Dinter said of working with Freyler. “He was at the camp I went to and I got some coaching from him there.”

The Kaukauna High School star said he is excited to be able to use Iowa State’s resources for workouts after signing day.

He chose Iowa State over North Dakota and Minnesota State Mankato because of the coaching staff staff in Ames.

“It’s definitely the coaches – I feel like the coaches are more down to earth people,” Van Dinter said. “You can get along with them easy and I feel like they’re easy to take coaching from. The facilities are just insane, too.”
