Iowa State Wrestling announces new wrestling facility to open in 2025

Head coach Kevin Dresser announced on Thursday night, during the Cyclone Regional Training Center’s annual fundraising dinner, that a new wrestling facility is in progress.

Iowa State will acquire and renovate the Iowa Attack facility adjacent to the Iowa State Sukup Basketball Complex in West Ames. Dresser revealed that Jamie Pollard, Iowa State’s Athletic Director, has pledged a portion of the $20 million needed for the facility’s purchase. The rest will come from donations, offering several opportunities for naming rights. Dresser announced a commitment of $2 million has already been made just this week.

The new facility is anticipated to open in the fall of 2025.

“Our new wrestling facility will be the best wrestling facility in the country. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2025,” Pollard tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

This new project will be separate from the Malcolm Performance Center renovation project that was announced in April by the university, which included plans to renovate Leid Recreation Center with updated spaces for the wrestling and track teams.

“This is going to be such a tremendous place to train! And the history of the program will be displayed throughout the entire wrestling center also! 36,000 sft of just ISU Wrestling!” Dresser tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

Take a look at the proposed plan for the new facility:
