Iowa State first offered Nebraska linebacker Pierce Mooberry back in April, becoming the first Division 1 program to offer the 6-foot-5, 205-pound prospect.
Following his visit to Saturday’s Cy-Hawk game, Mooberry, a 2025 recruit, is getting more and more comfortable with the program’s staff.
“I think it’s less about football and more about just personality and just getting to know more about each other – me and (linebackers coach Tyson Veidt),” Mooberry said. “We’ve definitely talked a little bit about games I previously played and what I can do better. It’s just been great talks with coach Veidt.”
Mooberry has yet to receive his second scholarship offer, but it’s allowed him to be able to reach a more personal relationship with the staff in Ames, while still being early in the recruiting process.
“If more come, than that’s great, but I’m definitely not craving more,” Mooberry said. “I just need one and I have that one. That’s always nice.”
During his visit to Jack Trice Stadium, Mooberry got to see the type of defensive performance that fans have been used to under the leadership of defensive coordinator Jon Heacock.
The Cyclones gave up just 13 points defensively – and only three in the second half – despite the loss taken to their in-state rivals.
“It’s good,” Mooberry said. “You can definitely tell most Iowa’s points in the earlier in the game are bred for halftime and they’re able to dig down in fourth quarter and almost make a comeback during the game which was really cool to see the defense kind of show up and make the stops that they needed.”
Mooberry, who’s playing in his junior season currently at Millard North High School, will face off against the No. 1 team in the state Friday night in Omaha Westside.
Iowa State will continue to strengthen its relationship with him.
“It just, it just, our relationship just continues to grow and keeps taking a step further, which is always great,” Mooberry said. I learn more and more and have just get more comfortable with them.”
