Every college football player goes through weight gains and weight losses during any given offseason.

We’re detailing the five biggest number changes from last season to this year all in order for you here.

The largest difference came from defensive lineman Braden Simonsen, who redshirted a season ago and will be considered a redshirt freshman to begin the 2023 season. Simonsen gained 34 pounds, going from 226 to 260 lbs. through time off.

Obviously, Simonsen isn’t the biggest name to put in the work for weight fluctuation that strength & conditioning coach Reid Kagy thought was necessary.

Defensive lineman Ikenna Ezeogu gained 25 pounds, moving himself from 235 to 260. Linebacker Myles Mendeszoon went from 220 to 240 ahead of his redshirt sophomore season.

In case anyone was wondering what punts may look like in 2023, Tyler Perkins has tacked on 20 pounds himself, moving from 195 to 215 before his sophomore season. Kicker Keegan Shackford put on 21 pounds, as well.

A pair of offensive lineman – a group that has exceeded in the weight room over the off times – have established themselves as well, with both Brady Petersen and Tyler Miller growing in the room, too.

The double-digit weight changes for Iowa State football are all listed below.
