Iowa State found its 11th commitment to the 2024 recruiting class on Tuesday in Colorado offensive line prospect A.J. Burton.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound prospect was in town over the weekend for his official visit, along with a number of others either already committed or considering Iowa State.

“They knew how I was feeling coming into this weekend,” Burton said. “There was kind of some discussion on what the plan was and what we’re going to do. Right now, that’s where I’m at.”

Burton becomes the third commitment Iowa State has gotten out of the weekend, joining Arizona running back Dylan Lee and Texas quarterback/ATH Deyon Batiste.

“I’ve just felt like they’ve been recruiting me the hardest – looking at me and my ability on the field,” Burton said. “Where as, some schools, I just feel like they get too caught up on social media and see these kids going to all of these camps – coach Clanton and coach Campbell see my abilities on the field, and just make me feel loved.”

Being an offensive lineman, Burton spoke fondly about Clanton, who enters his first season as the offensive line coach for the program.

The uniqueness to a guy like Clanton stood out for Burton.

“I love (Clanton),” Burton said. “He’s just a different dude. He always talks about being a dog, and that applies to football yeah, but I feel like he really is a dog, knowing his story and everything he’s been through and it made me feel like I wanted to be coached by someone like that.”

Burton chose Iowa State over offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Indiana, and Charlotte.

After this weekend, he’s found a home in Ames.

“It was a great time. I had a great experience and I was glad to be out there again. The culture and everything around it is amazing. Every school says they’re a family, but it truly feels like it’s a family (at Iowa State).”
