Iowa State wasn’t at the top of Tyson Terry’s interest list coming into this spring, but following his latest visit to Ames, the Nebraska prospect says the program has moved up.
Terry, a three-star defensive line prospect, is rated as the No. 2 prospect in his home state.
“Iowa State – just visiting last spring and going up for a game day – they were always kind of in the back of my mind,” Terry said. “I probably wouldn’t say they were one of the few at the top of my list, but after the visit this spring, I would say they’re one of the top schools.”
The 6-foot-3 lineman visited Colorado, Kansas State, Nebraska and Iowa through the month of April.
It appears as though those four programs along with Iowa State are the front runners for Terry, a member of the 2025 recruiting class.
“It’s been fun,” Terry said. “I’ve kind of visited more of the schools I’m most interested in – (places) I kind of feel like I can be at in the future. That’s kind of where I’ve been at in the spring and then, this summer, I don’t think I’m camping anywhere. I’m not sure if I’ll get up for any summer visits, I’m just getting ready for next football season.”
Terry plays both ways at Omaha North High School as an offensive guard and defensive tackle, but Iowa State is recruiting him primarily as a defensive lineman.
The Cyclones first offered Terry in January of 2022, and he’s since grown a little more and impressed on the wrestling mat.
“My weight goes up and down,” Terry said. “I can lose weight and gain weight super easy. Last year I was weighing around 260-ish. Last summer was when I kind of hit that growth spurt – maybe the last one, if not one more little one. I got to around 285 for football. I felt good, not the greatest, but I got to 6-foot-3 and got to wrestling and with working out every day was at 265, so I was pretty lean.”
Terry will take on his 2023 high school seasons with goals of state championships in mind before the push for him really takes off in the spring of 2024.
