Iowa State became the first Division I program to offer Nebraska linebacker Pierce Mooberry last week.
As a member of the 2025 class, it seemed like a matter of time that Mooberry would get one, but it hits a little different with the first offer on the table.
“It’s amazing,” Mooberry said. “Just with all of the hard work, staying humble the past couple of years – it’s just kind of paying off. It feels pretty great.”
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound prospect visited Iowa State Thursday, and came away with a lot.
“Going there Thursday, I really just liked everything they did,” Mooberry said. “They keep all of their athletes at a very high standard academically. You’ve got to be in the front rows (of classes)… I like that because it keeps everyone on the same page.”
Iowa State is looking at Mooberry as a linebacker, although he does play both ways (tight end, offensively) at Millard North.
Last season, he turned 16 receptions into 404 receiving yards with five touchdowns on offense, and brought home 45 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, four sacks as well as an interception in his sophomore year.
Being from Nebraska, Mooberry mentioned the campus layout as something he liked about Ames.
“I really liked Iowa State – just with how their setup was and everything being right by each other,” Mooberry said.
Mooberry, who has visited Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin so far this April, also touched on Iowa State’s pitch to him.
The program in Ames didn’t come off like the others.
“They make you feel like they want you there and want to get you better,” Mooberry said. “A lot of other schools – not to say they brag about their facilities – but (Iowa State) said they were so thankful for them. Like they were blessed to be able to have them.”
The 2025 class won’t come together for a while, but this is certainly a piece to watch for.
