Iowa State earned its fifth commitment of the 2024 football class this week in Colorado linebacker Mason Miller.

Miller, a three-star prospect, is rated as the No. 7 prospect out of the state and says that he chose Iowa State because of the cultural fit between players and coaching staff.

“The family – like all of the coaches and all of the players – there’s just a different bond there,” Miller said.

Miller had other offers to Washington State and Wyoming, and will bring his 6-foot-3, 230-pound frame to Ames.

He thanked Iowa State linebackers coach Tyson Veidt as well as tight ends coach Taylor Mouser in his commitment post.

“It’s awesome,” Miller said of the coaches. “They’ve always reassured me, treated me as a priority, tried to talk to me whenever they were able to, try to know what’s going on in my life, just everything.”

Iowa State sees Miller slotting in at the mike linebacker position in its defense, where O’Rien Vance played during his career.

“(I watched) Vance,” Miller said. “I went to the Baylor game last year and he plays like a mad man. The 3-3-stack is a great defense and the mike linebacker just thrives in it.”

Miller joins quarterback Connor Moberly, tight end Keaton Roskop, defensive end Jace Gilbert, and ATH Danny Inglis as the first group of commits to the 2024 class.
