Iowa State made a splash on the Internet on Saturday when it unveiled throwback uniforms that will be worn on Oct. 7 against TCU to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of Jack Trice’s death.
The photos and videos unveiling the uniforms got nearly universal praise, and the man in charge is a fan, as well.
“I think they’re awesome,” said Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell. “What a powerful story we have the ability to continue to tell the country. Obviously, what he’s meant to this university and the trailblazing demeanor that he’s given so many of our kids an opportunity to succeed, it’s a huge story.”
Iowa State will be celebrating the life of Trice all season leading up to the Jack Trice Legacy game against the Horned Frogs. It will culminate that weekend in October, which will mark 100 years since Trice tragically passed away due to injuries suffered in a game against Minnesota.
“It’s a powerful story,” Campbell said. “Obviously, all season, we’ll have the opportunity to tell the Jack Trice story to not only Iowa but the entire country.”
