Iowa State defensive line commit Samuel Same will sign his national letter of intent in less than a week’s time, as will a majority of the 2023 class.

It marks the end of a long recruiting process and one that’s been as satisfactory as can be for Same.

“I try to remind myself that I was extremely blessed to be a part of this recruitment process in the first place,” Same said. “In terms of signing with Iowa State, specifically, I’m extremely excited.”

Same said that the coaching staff’s consistency in their messages was something that led him to making his choice.

“Throughout this entire process, I feel like they’ve been the most consistent in what they say and what they do,” Same said. “I feel like being able to be a part of that program and finally put pen to paper and start this journey soon, it brings me a lot of joy and excitement.”

Same is projecting to play the leo position in Iowa State’s defense.

As a 6-foot-5, 215-pounder, the staff sees a lot of room for development of the Kansas prospect.

“We’ve talked about me playing the leo position and just being a versatile player for the defense,” Same said. “Just with my size, my length and then being able to be in a college weight room and learn under Coach Rasheed, they feel like that would be the best spot for me to help the Cyclones.”

Until he arrives in Ames, Same will just be soaking in what he can and preparing to take the next step to play on the field at Iowa State.

“I’m just trying to soak in as much of the culture of Iowa State (as I can),” Same said. “I’m trying to buy into what they have going on right now in their program to be able to be the most useful asset to help us win more games and put us onto a trajectory to have a good season entering August and September.”
