Abubakarr Kamara hasn’t been offered by Iowa State yet, but things are certainly trending that way.

Kamara, who goes by Abu, is planning on taking a visit to Ames in January, tentatively set for the January 20-22 weekend before he makes his college choice in February.

“During the season it was about how my games went and (telling me) they’ll be in touch,” Kamara said. “When our season ended it was more so what is the next step to building that relationship with Iowa State.”

Kamara, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound ATH prospect has an offer sheet made up of mostly FCS programs, however Nebraska and Penn State have each shown interest along with the Cyclones since the season ended.

“I’m just glad that I was still able to get that opportunity,” Kamara said. “Most of the mentors I talked to said that junior year is when you’re getting recruited and in senior year, they don’t care. For me to be able to prove that wrong, and show that for those late bloomers, there’s still a chance out there for you.”

Iowa State quarterbacks coach Matt Caponi visited Kamara last week.

“We just caught up on stuff,” Kamara said. “He asked about the season and when I would be able to go up and visit the facilities and take a tour.”

Kamara will utilize the spring national signing day to finalize his decision.
