Iowa State has been hot on the JUCO recruiting trail as of late, putting a heavy focus on acquiring more defensive backs for its 2022 roster.

The program hosted its latest potential junior college transfer at the position over the weekend in Iowa Western’s Myles Norwood.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound athlete lines up at the cornerback position and is closely considering Iowa State as the spot to continue his college career.

“It’s pretty cool knowing that as soon as I’d come here, I could make an impact and help the team win some games,” Norwood said.

The JUCO product currently holds three offers – all coming from Power 5 schools.

Iowa State is in the running against both Kansas and Indiana – where he visited two months ago.

“It’s been humbling,” Norwood said. “When I signed with Iowa Western, the main reason I signed was because I bet on myself. I knew I was better than what people were saying. I knew I could play at the FBS level. It was really motivating.”

Iowa State’s coaching staff made the biggest impact on his visit to the school, but he also mentioned Iowa State’s campus and chasing a degree.

“The coaching staff – just sitting down and talking with Coach Campbell, with my family,” Norwood said. “The rest of the coaches I talked to as well – I liked them a lot. I could definitely see myself there for the next couple of years.

“I really love the campus – just how it’s laid out and how friendly everyone was. I loved the academics, too,” Norwood said. “I can definitely see myself going there and getting a degree.

The St. Louis native plans on choosing a school in early June, assuming nothing changes with his recruitment.
