Longtime Iowa State assistant coach Daniyal Robinson is expected to be named the head coach at Cleveland State, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

This past season was Robinson’s ninth on the bench in Ames across two different stints under three head coaches. The Chicago native was an assistant under Greg McDermott from 2008-10 then returned to the program in 2015 to work for the entirety of Steve Prohm’s tenure, and was retained by T.J. Otzelberger when he was hired in 2022.

Iowa State has advanced to four NCAA Tournaments, two Sweet Sixteens, including this season, and won two Big 12 Tournament titles in Robinson’s time with the program.

He’s credited as the lead recruiter for former Iowa State stars such as Talen Horton-Tucker, Tyrese Haliburton and numerous others.

Cleveland State finished 20-11 this past season and led to head coach Dennis Gates being hired as the head coach at Missouri.
