One of the top high school football players in Iowa will announce his college decision this evening.
Ankeny quarterback, and Iowa State legacy, JJ Kohl announced earlier this morning he’ll make his college commitment at 7 p.m. central time tonight. Iowa State is currently regarded as the favorite to land the 6-foot-6, 227-pound signal-caller.
Kohl is considered the No. 325 player in the country, No. 17 quarterback and No. 3 prospect in Iowa by the 247Composite. In addition to Iowa State, he holds offers from Boston College, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and a few others.
The son of former Iowa State kicker and Kohl’s Kicking guru Jamie Kohl, JJ helped Ankeny reach the Class 5A state title game last season while passing for 2,185 yards, 25 touchdowns and only four interceptions on 60.3 percent completions.
If Kohl chooses the Cyclones, he’ll be the program’s second-highest rated quarterback commit in the 247 era behind only expected 2022 starter Hunter Dekkers.
