After leading Ames to its first state championship in over a decade, Iowa State signee Tamin Lipsey was named Gatorade Player of the Year in the state Wednesday night.

Lipsey shot 56.7 percent from the field over the course of the year and helped the Little Cyclones to a 23-3 record on the season overall.

The past three Gatorade players of the year in the state in Tucker DeVries and Bowen Born are both thriving at Drake and UNI, respectively.

The award was also won by Marcus Paige and Harrison Barnes in the past.

Lipsey will join Minnesota prospects Eli King and Demarion Watson in the 2022 recruiting class that will head to Ames next season.
