Iowa State saw its name come across the television in Ames on Sunday afternoon during the annual NCAA Selection Show.

The Cyclones were selected as a No. 11 seed and will face No. 6 LSU on Friday, March 18 in Milwaukee, Wis. The winner of the game will move on to face either No. 3 Wisconsin or No. 14 Colgate on Sunday.

The Tigers ended the season at 22-11 and finished tied for fifth in the conference with a 9-9 record in SEC play. The team also leads the nation in steals.

Over the weekend, LSU cut ties with former head coach Will Wade, and hired Kevin Nickelberry as its interim HC.

Iowa State finished the year with a 20-12 record overall and a 7-11 mark in Big 12 play.

It is an 18-win improvement between this season and last, a mark that ties a program record. With one more win, the Cyclones would set a program record for the biggest turnaround in the category.

On its resume, Iowa State finished the year tied for fifth in the nation with nine Quadrant 1 wins.

The trip to the NCAA Tournament is coach T.J. Otzelberger’s third of his career and fourth postseason appearance overall. Otzelberger’s South Dakota State teams made the big dance twice and qualified for the postseason once more in a NIT appearance.
