Most of the preferred walk-on class for Iowa State football in 2022 comes from in-state prospects, but one of the commits to the class is a unique case in Eddie Lemos.

Coming from two states away, the Colorado native will try and prove he can be a utility for the program.

“I’ve always wanted to play D1 and I want to go work my butt off and earn a scholarship at Iowa State,” Lemos said. “I know that program and they treat their kids really good.”

Lemos will compete as a safety at Iowa State after earning all-state honors twice at both quarterback and defensive back in high school.

This spring, the multi-sport athlete will finish up his career as a wrestler as well, trying to place at the state tournament for the third time.

Lemos held offers from Carthage College and Chadron State but chose Iowa State to chase his Division I dreams and ultimately because of the environment.

“I really loved the environment and Coach (Deon) Broomfield and (Jon) Heacock were amazing to work with,” Lemos said. “Then at game day I got a good feel for the environment and culture which was awesome, I could really see myself there.”

On his ensuing visit in December, he said he felt ‘felt right at home,’ which led to his decision.

Time will tell the story of what happens to Lemos from here on out, but if there’s one certainty it’s that he will put forth as much effort as he can.

“I have a clear understanding of what it’s going to take,” Lemos said. “Hard work, perseverance, and determination to help the team achieve team goals are important to me. I’m ready to contribute and earn the respect of my teammates and coaches.”
